XBL Silver offers Free Online Play

Live will always be better than PSN because Microsoft included a headset with their console and it feels like an online service.
With statements like that, it's no wonder the word 'fanboy' is so common on these forums. Oh and for the record, Microsoft didn't always include a headset.

I'm a PC gamer and I don't mind paying the small price for Xbox Live.
He was referring to PC gamers paying to play on their PC's, not Live.

Sony will charge eventually.
You've been saying this since the PS3 was launched. It's easy to say something will 'eventually happen' because if it does you're right, if it doesn't, you just keep saying it and eventually you may be...

If you want to be smart, tell us when it's going to happen ;)

I have no idea when it will happen, but I am damn sure that it will eventually. Servers cost money and sony aren't "in it for the fans" anymore than MS and nintendo (who have announced plans to charge) are.

I guess thats were home comes in with its partnerships with big companies such as Coca-cola, Nike etc. They will charge companys to advertise in home as when it arrives, they have a possible 14 million+ people seeing their adverts and becoming potential customers. The ability to also add chargable extra content for home such as the brand new Nike trainers or some new designer clothers for say 50P -£1 could also generate some revenue for Sony and their advertising partners.

So why then has PSN been free thus far, if they're 'not in it for the fans'? If they are so intent of robbing us, why did they not charge from day one, like Microsoft?

Because it makes the console more attractive to some people .... ?

Because being free is the only thing that makes it viable.

If Sony had charged £40 from day one on the PS3 it would have sunk them as no one would have signed up (why would they?). Slowly as their service starts to compare to MS's they have introduced costs (Qore) and if their service was honestly equal I really wouldn't be surprised to see a small charge introduced. When Home is released it will be interesting to see what happens.

Don't get me wrong it's great it's free at the moment as it forces MS to constantly review their charging structure but do you honestly think the reason Sony don't charge users is altruism?
