Car stupid people.

Ok I'm the stupid one this time...

I've got a mate at work, he's just been telling me about his new car he's picking up at the weekend.

It's a Vauxhall Nova 1.4 Flair with a 2.0 16v red top conversion from an astra GTE - fully seam welded (80k on the clock).

Ashley racing exhaust system, green cotton air filter.

He tells me he's gnna get an ecu remap, and apparently on the Santa pod certificates he's telling me it does 0-100 in 6/7 seconds.

Sound about right or am I being told a load of bull****?

As has been said, 0-100 in 6/7 seconds no way, but 0-60 in 6/7 seconds - yep, no problems. Redtop Novas are pretty fast little cars.

ok loads of stupid ones....
firstly coming home one night to find next door neighbours kid cutting and banging about in the footwell of his 1.1 fiesta mk 2 when asked what he was doing he replyed " im tuning my car " i then asked how he was tuning it exactly " im modifiying the floor under the accelarator to give the pedel more travel therefore making it faster..."

in acctual fact he had cut a sodding great hole in the floor and the car then failed its mot.... not to mention giving him a wet foot on rainy days...

i used to work in a subaru garrage, and rember one day a lady came in with a brand spanking mew P1 that had dumped all its wartewr and oil all over our forecourt.... she had borrowed the hubbys car to go out and had run out of washer fluid, being as she put it " unfamiliar " with the car and having just done the shopping in waitrose she decided she couldnt drive it without any screen wash in ( she had heard it was illegal... wich i belive it acctually is ) she decided to fill up the bottle with some mineral water that she had just bought.... unfortunatly she couldnt tell which was the washer bottle or indeed which cap she should open to fill so she set about filling all of them with the mineral warter... yes all of them, the oil cap... the break resavouir, the washer bottle and also the hedder tank... being pleased with herself she also decided to top up the radiator. at this point id like to point out the loving wife had only bought carbonated perier warter....

a mile later the car was on our forecourt.... it cost her nearly £5K to put that one right!

and last but not least, a friend of mine in a mk 2 gti golf who thought he would put his steeleys on back to frount to give the car a better wheel base, he managed about 15 miles before two fell off and took his wings with them.... that one was written off!

This is why women should be banished to the kitchen.
WHAT THE HELL?????

BS figures aside (and they are BS) that should be a fun little crate, red top Novas are a hoot :)

No more fun than any other small hatch with a big engine put in it.

Correct, but I would rather a Nova with a redtop than a Corsa for example, the Nova has much more tidy handling.

My dad thinks that his Vauxhall is better than a BMW.

My sister thinks anything with over 30k miles on it will self destruct.

Save me.

:(

I was in Hellfrauds earlier today buying an ISO adapter, guy infront of me asks for "4x4 oil"

He thought there was a special type of engine oil for 4x4s :/

He's after "wannabe" 4x4 oil. It contains fine grit and water and is perfecting for buggering gearboxes and diffs to convince other people you've done more than take the car to the shops and back.

Ive got a female friend who thinks her 1300 corolla is "rapid" Thats pretty stupid lol

lol, i used to drive my mams F reg 1.3 Corolla and later her M reg 1.3 EFi Corolla. i swear that at the time, (i was 18-20 at college), they did feel like fast cars. It was easy top spin the wheels up at every roundabout (i was young, dont judge me). Its all relative, compared to the horrible whatever it was that i learned in, it did feel, Fast, Nippy, Rapid.

obviously compared to new cars they are, and were not fast. But they were quicker than a bus, or walking. Some girls may get confused by this.

My mate that has taken all his intercooler pipes off and stuck them back on with silicone sealant.(on a land rover)

Reason being "water would get in else". He just been doing his wading kit

Explained there air tight but just got a blank look back :D

I await someone to show me this is the done thing :D

He is sort of right. Air tight is fine, water pressure tight is a different matter. Ordinary road driving doesn't apply a pressure to the air inlet pipes from the outside, wading does.

Admittedly you'd need to be doing something daft like driving a suzuki to put any real pressure on them joints.

The guy I bought my Vento off said this model don't stop very well. He then went on to tell me this model only had 90 brake horse power, and the new one had 115.

Infact it was the 75 bhp model aswell.

But it was cheap so I didn't mind.

I remember pulling up to some traffic lights once and the girlfriend at the time asking why the rev count wasn't at zero as we were stood still. This was about 8 years ago so before efficient dynamics.

I have a friend that always buys brand new cars and gets rid of them for another brand new car before the MOT is due. As she is worried an MOT will cost money, she just can't grasp depreciation. Worse still if the sales guy tells her its a good deal she believes them.
