Would really like to know if it was possible to passively cool one of these easily with a pre-installed cooler for a folding rig, might make me get a pair of them.

Their 3870 PCS didn't allow you to adjust the fan speed. The cooler was based on a Zerotherm cooler which does come with a built in thermistor to adjust the fan speed automatically, but they didn't include this on their version..madness! I'm so wanting a 4870 but it's got to be very quiet during surfing/emailing. When I'm playing games I don't care about fan noise. The wait goes on....

You'll find the Diamond isn't clocked at 950Mhz. It is I think clocked at 850Mhz, with possibility to go to 950Mhz with the BIOS. It even uses the stock cooler!

Someone asked about passive cooling the 4870. I wouldn't recommend it if you've seen the thermal images recently. You will defo want a fan blowing over at least the VRM's/PCB if you to use an S1 passively.

Anyway, finally 1gb!

Mehh about only 800Mhz though!

Hmm, ive just built my fastest computer to date and it is also the quietest ive ever owned. Its a real pity that graphics card seem to be getting louder and louder

I'd really like to upgrade my fx card but i dont want a computer that sounds like an aeroplane taking off :mad:

Errm the 4870 is silent when left at automatic. It may occasionally spin up to keep temps low but it lasts the whole of 1second and doesn't do it at all when at idle in Windows. It cannot be heard over my ambient case noise which is extremely quiet considering I only have 4 sharkoon eagle 1000's in it.
