Just did a bit of digging and while there are no release notes covering what is updated, it appears that this is a small update to enable compatibility with Life with Playstation 3 (weather, news etc channels similar to Wii channels).

Doesnt seem to be anyone complaining about it bricking their beloved either....

:)

The official word: "This update improves the playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation format software." A bit underwhelming? Perhaps.

I just did mine and it said cant find hard disk:confused:, just done a restart and its all fine.:)
It seems to have improved the speed the trophy info is displayed though.

there wont be any updates worth getting too hyped up about [ie that add new features]
until home/playtv imo

but that is just an estimation - i hope sony prove me wrong

i was reading somthing the other day about the ps3 and it was an interview with Jack trenton I think basicly he was saying that the hardware guys and the software guys didnt really work together that well while developing the ps3 so now the software guys are making up for it as much as possible trying to sort out the hardware guys mess if you know what i mean

Didn't work together well? That was incredibly easy to tell from the day it came out. Stating the obvious a little bit there :p

Is it just me or does anyone else wish they'd put XMB access in DVD playback as well as games? I just wanted to see that little clock really.

Another update that practically changes nothing, but will take another 5 minutes of time, thanks Sony :)

Why can't they just release a few updates a year the way Microsoft have been doing things? I've now got to the stage where I'm really fed up installing these things now.

I wouldn't be suprised if all these small updates contain bits of home or the playTV software.

I know that 2.41 contained something to do with playTV, so I wouldn't be surprised if Sony were planning ahead to save humongous load on their download servers.

Much better for everyone to download in small chunks and piece it together at the PS3 end when it's all collected. Especially as home is bound to be several gig. Imagine everyone trying to download that come release.

Because they're not microsoft and are free to run things how they see fit and the consumer has a choice in the matter as to which console suits their preferences here. Anyone who doesn't believe this is a communist :).
