4870 Asus TOP bios. 900mhz in CCC

Flashed mine fine. Need to fiddle with RBE a bit more to see if I can tweak it (and maybe change it from reporting as an ASUS )

815Mhz core, 1090Mhz memory so far. Fan is very noticeable and bordering on loud when it gets going in games.

Boot from a USB stick, copy the files over. Reboot, at the C: prompt type:

atiflash -f -p 0 newbios.rom *filename depends on name of bios file

At next C: prompt do Ctrl+Alt+Delete, voila!

Is it not too risky flashing from windows compared to doing it in dos?

I'm using ATiflash but dont know if atiflash -f -newbios -p [index] biosname.rom is correct?

flashing from windows is lame and risky.

just do: atiflash -p -f 0 biosname.rom

Done it, working now :)

The fan is at a decent speed, not too loud now and 900Mhz overclocking limit, pretty happy, just gotta test if it like 800Mhz now.

I'm hoping pencil mods or voltage bumps via Bios will be possible soon.

Well at least with rbe you can just alter the fan profiles in the bios with rbe to suit your requirements.

Also, you can change the card name so long as the number of characters is less than the name already in there.

I've changed mine to Greebo ;)

Bit of a nub here, how do you navigate to the folder through the command prompt, i keep getting its not recognized , i need more detailed instructions, dohhh.

That's why it's best to make a simple folder on the root drive called "bios" or whatever you want.

After you have installed ati winflash, copy all the files from that folder to your new one plus your new asus bios.

then on command propmt it is easy to find your folder eg cd bios

61 degrees in GRID, I can cope with the loudness in games, and I was playing at 800Mhz core fine.

You tweaked your bios or just set it to 800 in CCC?

I think mine is a bad overclocker and 840 is fine, 875 works on 3dmark06, vantage but bombs on GRID.

Roll on bios voltage mods :D

Just set it to 800 in CCC.

I thought it was unstable though as in GRID I am getting these weird slowdowns, like slow motion sort of things :s, dont get why it does it, get it at stock so its not a card issue

Bad overclocker? Are you joking? 840Mhz is pretty good for stock volts imo, pretty sure mine is at its limit at 800, I'm going to try with ram at 975 next and it'll probs reset, ram is a right crap one on mine.

I have to say, the bios is fantastic, and thanks for the help in getting it up and running, and drawing my attention to it.

I was hitting 98C with a mild overclock before, now its hitting 61C while playing mass effect for the last hour.

Its a little noisy for me at stock, not massively so, id like it to go down to 20% at idle, rather than 30%.

Scratch that, GRID had awful full screen corruption on the opening scene @ 815Mhz. What's most annoying about these cards is that these kind of artifacts don't go away unless you do a cold reboot.

For the record, just tried mine in grid (did a few races), and it seems to work okay at 840/1075 - i would black screen with memory anything over 1000 before i flashed :p

Ran flawlessly with full detail at 1920x1200 with 4x MSAA

Glad you are finding good results.

Just edit the bios with rbe to suit a quiet surfing environment and flash it. Easy once you know how. ;)

Just updated the bios with a flash drive, like to thank all those that contributed to this thread, i'm stable at 1100mem 830gpu and the temps are way better than the fan profiles with the original bios.:D
