13yo earns an AVERAGE! £70 per hour in Brighton..busking!

Show me where I said he wasn't a good guitarist?

Fact is, yes his shredding is good, he has a good grasp of the technical aspects of a guitar, but you can never say he's a good guitarist from that one video.

You can glean an awful amount of information about someone's technique and musicality from a very short snippet of footage.

I can surmise from the video that he is an incredibly talented natural musician. I am a music teacher by profession and have taught hundreds and hundreds of kids around his age.

I teach sax/flute/clarinet, but the musicality is the same, and is easy to spot. From that one clip, he spots as top 3 of all the kids I've taught, no question. Very talented youngster.

It's not uncommon for people like this to earn large amounts of money and not have it swiped. My sister use to do hair braiding in Newquay and earned well over £700 a day and never once got robbed from, in fact hardly anyone had any idea how much she earnt.

Again, I'm not saying he isn't. But it doesn't make him a good guitarist. But it doesn't make him a bad one either.

Yes, his technique is good, his bends are good, his technique is good using his wrist rather than his fingers to bend and his scales are very good.

But still... there's more to a guitarist than shredding.

it's like saying the footballers you see who can keep the ball up in the air without dropping it (the type who tou stadiums, appear on stage, e.t.c) are excellent footballers. You can't say that.

To me he's very good. If you can shred then surely everything else on the guitar is easy, assuming you have rhythm?
Not quite. Although its hard to go 0 -> Cooley without picking up may other skills. Being able to shred and being able to improvise is a totally, totally different animal.

I can understand where some are coming from in this thread and at least nobody has made me want to re-start the Guitar Warriors thread.
The young lad is really good at what he's doing but he could very well be a one trick pony.
Unless we see more and hear what is repertoire is during his busking we will never know.

Good for him. He's out on the streets, doing something which is a hobby for him, and earning upkeep that doesn't have to be taxed.

Better than running around with a hoody on, stabbing whatever poor sod happens to be in your way.

Wish i could go busking and take a tv, xbox and guitar hero3 and play dragonforce on expert and earn £70/hour.

But on topic, that kid is immense, wish i learnt an instrument as a child.

He's good, but the Hendrix guy is far more entertaining. Haven't seen him for a bit in Brighton though :(

My stepbrother used to busk with his saxophone in Uttoxeter (small market town in between Derby and Stoke for those who don't know) when he was 14/15 and used to earn between £100 and £200 for 2-3 hours of busking - quite a lot of money in it if you're talented and can play a good show to fairly cold people!

His technique is very good for his age. However he needs to learn melody and that will come as he grows older.

Do you think he's any good at Guitar Hero? :D

He does sound very impressive though. Good on him for doing something constructive with his life.

(Presenter is pretty tasty looking isn't she)

He's good, but hes playing one type of genre, id like to here some other genres, such as some jazz fusion, some swing, something with rhythm! not just sweeping up and down the neck, it gets boring quickly.
