PS3 good PC replacement?

It's quite impractical to have a pc set up in my bedroom, I am building a new one for gaming but that's another story.

All I really need is a basic PC for when I don't have access to my gaming rig and just want to browse the internet or do a bit of work, I'm leaning more towards the netbooks now however.

This doesn't make a huge amount of sense to me. For your requirements you could easily build a sff pc that's smaller and cheaper than a ps3. For even less money you could pick up a second hand Compaq Deskpro off of ebay that's about comparable in size to a ps3 (maybe even smaller) that would easily out perform it in Linux. I'm sure they're around £50. It would probably have an xp license slapped on the side too.

They don't have a hdmi port though do they? I don't think my tv has a vga connection.

If you're happy using Linux, then yes, it is good, however you won't have the freedom you do using a PC. If you really only need the basics then you could do a lot worse than a PS3.

Eh? The graphics card alone will cost you more than double the price of a PS3 to play crysis lol!

lol? The 4870 is 50 quid less than a PS3 if you're looking for a card that runs Crysis on custom High++ configs. There are video cards that cost 70 quid if you want to play on standard High mode.

The 4870 also comes with a DVI-HDMI convertor. I use my HDTV to play Crysis on. I'm also trying an experiment in getting WoW playable with a 360 pad too. :p

PS3, £300-ish?
Decent graphics card, £170.

I'm no maths guru but the graphics card is quite clearly more than double the price. *cough*

my 8800gt is still a decent card and handles anything i put at it (so far) so for about £70 their still one of the best bargains.

Crysis needs to be played on high otherwise its just a washed out experience. Theirs no way i could replace my PC as theirs so much of a back catalogue theirs never time to get bored!

Consoles are still worth it though for the exclusives. but i could never replace the multiplayer experience of playing my pc. :)

Decent graphics card, around £80, rest of the PC? About £270.

An 8800GT which is around the £80 mark can handle TF2, CoD4, DMC4, BioShock and a bunch of other games maxed out with great FPS at 1920x1080, I would know as I've had one for the past 8 months.
