hi guys,

What do you lot use for a gaming keyboard and mouse?

For a mouse, I'm thinking a mx518 maybe? Seems to have a good right up.

As for a keyboard, I don't know - there's only so much you can do with a keyboard I'm guessing, don't know why the gaming keyboards are for gaming :)

I'm not entirely sure about gaming keyboards either.
I have a G15 and the only feature I take advantage of while gaming is the LCD and that's only to display Teamspeak information.
However, it is a great keyboard and I do use the macro keys frequently for things like Photoshop shortcuts and whatnot. The media buttons are excellent also.

For a mouse, I think most people will tell you the MX518 or G5. I prefer the G9 myself. Your best bet is to go to one of 'those shops' and try them out and find out what's comfortable for you.
 
I use an mx revolution, a bit heavy but all its comfort/uses outside of gaming make it worth it.

i hate not having a Google button now :D ther thumb wheel is good too with vistas document flip scroll thingy.

And the only reason you should get a gaming keyboard is if you need to have to press lots and lots of buttons at once as cheaper bog standard keyboards have a button press limit. Or if you want a bitchin' LCD at the top of your keyboard :p

Make sure you do get a mousemat though, seriously makes a ton of difference over the freebie mousemats. May I suggest the Razer Mantis Speed, utterly massive but surface is perfect.

Sorry, was a bit quick to reply! :D

I went for the Eclipse 2 because i had an Eclipse 1, which was excellent for the price, but was getting a bit tatty. I just find backlit keyboards more convinient, and at the time it was the best valued backlit board! Looks swish too :cool:

As for the mouse, i lied. I've ordered a deathadder and it's coming on monday :o So i'll let you know then. As for a mouse mat, most people will say it's general preferance. I bought the exactmat to go with my current razer viper mouse. With the mat, it's so much smoother, you can litteraly push the mouse across the mat by blowing on it. I'd definatly get one again if this one were to get damaged, which is unlikely as it's made of metal :cool:

Okay,

G15
- Keys feel nice
- Macro keys can be useful in MMOs, not so much on FPS games though. However, they're still very useful when not gaming.
- LCD is handy with all the different apps you can download for it.
- Media buttons are great. I love the volume dial.

G9
- Nice to grip
- Well placed side buttons
- scroll wheel is nice. Can be 'click' or free scrolling.
- Has horizontal scrolling but isn't easy to accidentally use.
- Customisable weights if you like your mouse light or heavy or whatever.


ExactMat
- Works just the same as any other decent mousepad. I just prefer the wrist guard you can get for it.

That's superb mate :)

The eclipse was something I was looking at to be quite honest. Don't want a gaming keyboard that's massive! (not a lot of room on
my desk)

As for a mouse mat, how big arethe gaming ones? I'm limited to what space I have. I have a cheap Argos desk, hardly any space!
 
The eXactmate is the width of an A4 piece of paper, but about an inch taller! The razer mantis mats are bigger again i think!

I have the G15 and the G5 here.

Got my G5 yesterday and I absolutely love it, it'll probably end up being the best mouse I've ever had. Extremely smooth over my old MX1000, I don't care what people say, you still feel kind of 'detached' from your mouse when it's wireless. Wired mice are still elite. I can actually aim properly and get good headshots with my G5, I never used to be able to with my MX1000.

I'm liking the feeling of the G5 as well, it's not your regular mix of rubber and plastic, it's a weird scratchy material (definitely not in a bad way) which actually keeps your hands dry and feeling clean.

The G15 is also excellent for games, love the LCD to monitor my PC while in game, or to display ingame stats. Also nice to type on and all the keys are in the correct place along with a correctly sized enter key and backspace.

Also a nice Belkin mousemat with gel wrist wrest.

Logitech G11 - Never seen the need for some dodgy screen on the keyboard so went for the cheaper version. managed to nab it for £36 so i was quite chuffed. Really nice keyboard to use as well.

Razer Diamondback - Had it for about 3/4 years, dropped a sheet of aluminium on it made a huge dint in one of the buttons and still works perfect. Great mouse.

43x35cm. AKA HUGE! A nono for argos desks I think.

I say the MX518 because it's just so damn reliable, smooth, ergonomic and the button placements are perfection - for righties only though.

It's been well over 2 years now and other than a slightly worn out logitech logo the mouse looks brand new and feels brand new. The first time I used the mouse (albeit after a crappy old optical thing) I was blown away by how it managed to just glide across the mat, and how smooth the pointer control was. The mouse fits into the palm of your hand perfectly, although my hands aren't too big, and the buttons are all very reachable for your thumb.

Tis the same shape as the G5 and G7, only with an extra mouse button on the left (who knows why Logitech made that decision to make the upgraded version of a mouse less useful). Considering how invaluable I find that button to be in just normal web browsing, let alone in FPSs I don't see why you'd go for a G5/G7. Plus it's dirt cheap now :)
 
i have a g5 but prefer
the cheaper mx510.....a good feel to it and perfect weight also.

i have a g15 but prefer
the microsoft natural keyboard.....very comfortable keyboard with a perfect layout...was easy to type in the dark on that keyboard and make very few errors(yes i know the g15 has lights but who looks at the keyboard when typing).

mousepad i have a razer exact pad but prefer the old everglide giganta optical....extremely smooth and accurate but not too slippery that the mouse falls off the pad if on a slight angle.

the ones i put down as prefer are for online gaming only

I think the G5 has probably replaced the MX518 now, they're extremely similar in shape, size and features. As memory mentioned they have added the extra side button to the mouse.

I've used my brothers MX510 a fair bit and I'm guessing it's very similar to the MX518. The G5 is lighter than the MX510 (weight can be added to the G5 easily) and feels very similar in Windows and games (the G5's movements in game and Windows are a lot smoother over the MX510 IMO).
