Carrying a Knife

I've never in my life heard or read about anyone being hurt with one of the knives Sikhs carry.

If someone wants to carry a knife to hurt someone, they will regardless of the law. If a Sikh wants to carry one for religious reasons, and never uses it (which they don't!), it's alright if you ask me.

So we are supposed to trust someone carrying a large knife on the basis that they are religious? Is it alright for me to carry a knife? I've never used a knife to attack another person and i can i give you assurances that i never will, so that's alright?

Utter joke tbh, we go to there country and have to follow they shtie rules, come to ours and like bloodey live to our rules.

Yea your a minority for a reason - Your not from here.

Call this a racist input or what. I go to there country follow there rules, tehy should follow ours when in the uk, and stop using there religon as a reason not too.

Your obvious rightness actually outweights the obvious wrongness.

So if I turn sikh which I'm allowed to do. I can carry a knife in public. This has to be a legal loophole waiting to be exploited.

So it's not illegal to carry a knife in public unless your a sikh. How stupid is this country. It's run by a bunch of muppets.

The responses here are funny.

The blade has to be screwed to the sheath making it impossible to use, its symbolic. And as someone said, find one case where someone was attacked with a Sikh knife.

I wonder if I should create a religion where fondling of 18 year old girls breasts is a religious practise, that way I could get around the sexually harassment laws.

so why can't i carry a knife in a locked case in my backpack?

Thats not the point. Its the impression it creates. If i walk down the street with a gun is it ok so long as its not loaded?

Isn't it great that we live in such a culturally diverse country where freedom of religious belief is embraced and encouraged by all our citizens.

I was outside my work today and seen an Asian man walking down the street with a foot long curved blade attatched to his belt. He was walking along the street with his hand on the blade.

I then proceeded to phone the police just to be told that hes allowed to carry it as its for religious reasons.

I find that totally stupid, he could do some serious damage, If he gets into a fight the first thing he will do is reach for the blade.

Anybody else think thats wrong?

Ridiculous, our laws should not be adjusted to suite their religion.

Who wants to start a religion with me? Then we can have our own laws

im sorry but you obviously do not understand the sikh religion. they carry it only if they are VERY religious and would never use it unless they needed to defend themselves or their family, and probably wouldn't use it even then.

I don't understand the first thing about sikh religion, I have never looked into it or learnt about it.

This country has laws against carrying knifes, these laws should be applied to EVERYONE no matter what race or religion.

Yes they might be carrying it peacefully with no intention to ever harm anybody, but that's not the point. My Dad carries a knife 24/7 as he constantly uses it as a tool in his car and for general every day use, if he was caught with it he'd be arrested without a second thought.

If I carried a knife, or even a gun I'd never have any intention to harm somebody with it, I'd only use it to defend myself or my family, but it's still illegal.

I don't think it's a problem.

That's not the point, they should abide by our laws if they live in this country.

I've seen people walking about in broad daylight waving kitchen knives.

What size does the knife have to be to be illegal?

Can't you carry penknives anymore? I've got a penknife/bottle opener attached to my keys.

i personally cannot stand religion and how people waste their time with it, therefor im against people being allowed to carry knives around, no matter how blunt they are

I think anything up to 6" within reason, is (Or was) legal.

I vote that the religion is Monopoly. The rules are already there. If you're good you go to Mayfair, if not, Jail. Mr. Monopoly rewards you with things such as Community Chest but can also test you by offering Chance.

We can go door to door like Jehova's Witnesses and just leave the rules for them to ponder over.

Behave.

I religiously believe i should be allowed to knock one out sitting outside woolworths, unfortunately the conventional rules of the land deem it somewhat inappropraite. Life sucks eh?

I'm in \o/

Seriously though I do think the sword is pretty much useless, it's just symbolic. However some people have said it still gives the impression that someone is carrying a weapon which is understandably intimidating. I can't say I like the fact religion can in any way override the laws of the land.
