OcUK Poker Thread.

I lost a $1200 pot with some crazy action last night, wasn't best pleased... CBA to pull out the exact hand from the logs, but roughly it went like this:

9 players, $1/2 blinds, me on the button and acting aggressively for the past hour. The first guy (Player A for purposes of the story) under the gun raises to $7.50, followed by a couple of folds. Player B raises it up to $21. Action folds to Player C who just calls.

At this point, I'm looking down at pot worth $50 with 3 players betting before me and I'm sitting with a pair of aces. Instant all-in for the rest of my stack - roughly $310. I found that all three called... some people would be delighted with that, but unfortunately I can do maths and didn't like it one bit!

Player A shows 78clubs
Player B shows KK
Player C shows QQ

Flop comes down with three meaningless rainbow cards without a club. Turn is a 7. River is an 8 and results at me screaming at player A through my monitor!

Quite how the hell he can call with a raise, call and an all-in shove in front of him is beyond me. I can only assume he thought that I was taking the mick and that the other two people would fold, but even then he was getting nowhere near value for money.

keep playing the same against plonkers like thet and it will pay off in the long term. nothing more you could have done

A couple of weeks ago I am in a live game at DTD , £50 FO

150/300 ish blinds, I have 2-3x average stack

I am first to act and raise to 1000 with AA, folded to BB who raises to 3000

I reraise 18000 all in and he calls , he is only bigger stack on table(marginally)

he shows AK and hits a straight

OK he had a good hand but just what did he think I had ?

Oh definitely, I tend to only ever tell people the hard luck stories and neglect to mention the amount of times that I take money from fools :p

What sort of image were you giving off?? It's one thing pulling that sort of stunt online, but when you have to look people in the eye after a hand I don't know what he was thinking! I would be making mental notes on that guy the second I saw him play a hand like that... hope that he apologised afterwards.

I honestly reckon that I have lost more money with AA than any other hand, obviously not counting money won from the same hand.

Hi I need some help organising a home tournament.

I have a 500 chip set and its split up like this:
  • 150x white - £1
  • 150x red - £5
  • 100x blue - £10
  • 50x green - £25
  • 50x black - £100

There can be from 3 to 5 people in the tournament each week including myself. There is only one table. We each buy in £10.

I was wondering how many of each set of chips I should deal out to each player? Also how would I set my blinds up and colouring up?

A have looked at Home Porker Tourney but I'm still at a loss.

Any help is appreciated. If people want to add me to my msn then go ahead.

Depends, we tend to start with 2,000 in chips. 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 is how we do it.

You could use 1,000 worth and do:

20 x £1
16 x £5
15 x £10
10 x £25
5 x £100

Set blinds at 2/4 to start with, maybe. Increase the blind levels every 8, 10 or 12 minutes, it's your choice. Any more and it'll drag, imo.

For a blind structure you could use:

Level 1 - 2/4
Level 2 - 5/10
Level 3 - 10/20
Level 4 - 15/30
Level 5 - 25/50
Level 6 - 50/100
Level 7 - 100/200
Level 8 - 150/300
Level 9 - 200/400
Level 10 - 250/500

Just realised something..

Whats a poRker tourny? :D

+$13k month for me in July, here's hoping I'll run half decent in August. I'm still terrible at putting in the hands though, something I really need to work on.

I just had one of those awesome situations where you get a great hand and find somebody that wants to play :)

Playing 6handed, a really tight player raised it up to 4 times the big blind, I've got position and a pair of 8s so I just call. Flop came down 8A8 and he checks to me. Usually in this situation I would just check, but I got the impression if he had kings or queens that I wouldn't make any money anyway and I'm hoping he's on an ace of some sort so I decided to bet half the pot. He comes straight over the top with a big raise which I just call and the next card is a 3. He pushes all in, I obviously called very fast with quad eights and he shows a pair of aces to make a full house. River brings a queen and a happy story that I can write on here about!

Thanks for the info el_dazza. Any suggestions on poker chips? I would love some Paulsons but they are just insane price - $1/each chip.

No problem. Haven't really got much of an idea about purchasing chips though. I had a set for my birthday a few years ago, but can't remember what make or weight the chips were I'm afraid :(

If you can't afford Paulson then there are some replicas which are virtually indistinguishable

after that there is a big gap in quality to the generic 11.5/13g stuff but tbh these are perfectly good

Right, I'm super annoyed.

.50/1NL at Ladbrokes.

Get dealt AK suited, guy raises to $4 UTG, I re-raise to $11, next guy re-raises to $18, I call, original raiser folds.

K72 flop, i bet $20, he goes all-in for $45 more, I call.
Turn 2, River 5..

HE SHOWS 2-3 OFF SUIT :mad:
