nVidia or ATI

lol ok fair enough, i was jus finking bout futureproofing thats all, at sum point i mite b goin 24" monitor but next year mayb lol gota start savin 4 xams 1st haha

If you are upgrading the screen next year save money get a 4850 now and get a new card and monitor next year. 4870 will be old tech next year so i would just use the 4850 as a stop gap until then.

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4850 1024MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI - £158.61

im sure then this will be a good purchase only £160 too, would it not be worth getting two of these for crossfire :P???? or am i been amature?

Thats what i would get as it will eat up anything you give it at the resolution you are playing at atm. No need for anything more than this until you upgrade your monitor. When you do buy a bigger screen just sell it on and get a better card more suited to the higher resolution. The 4850 1 gig cards are pretty much just a gimmick. For the price you would be just aswell to go get a 4870.

Summing up everything we have talked about today, we would like to give up the traditional set phrases about Intel’s success in increasing their dual-core processors performance. It is true, but we believe it is not the most important thing here. Yes, Core 2 Duo E8600 works at 3.33GHz - 166MHz higher clock frequency than that of Core 2 Duo E8500, and it is the highest frequency in the entire Core 2 family. However, it is not the most interesting thing about it. It is much more important that together with the launch of the new processor Intel will introduce into mass market new E0 Wolfdale stepping.

This processor stepping boasts a lot of serious improvements: it supports new power-saving technologies, offers more adequate and stable thermal sensors, overclocks better and is more economical. All these innovations are significant enough for us to strongly advise that you always pay special attention to the processor stepping of the 45nm CPUs you buy to make sure that you only get the latest E0 stepping. Especially, since not only Core 2 Duo E8600, but also other Wolfdale processors with lower frequencies and prices will soon switch to new cores.

Thats the conclution from a review of the e8600 which looks to be a great performer and has some advantages over the e8500. Link below is a full review have a look at the gaming results very impressive.

What should I do guys, I have a x38 mobo so crossfire is an option, q6600 a 8800gt which i wanna sell for an upgrade, must be able to power 20" and 24" monitors.

I could get a single 280 GTX.
or
4870 x2

but i wanna use my crossfire mobo. :D, would 2 4870s be cheaper/better?

As the 4870x2 is not out yet your question can't be answered in full because we don't know the actual price of it yet but if its cheap enough i would have 1 4870x2. In the previews it was as fast as 2x4870s but also in some games it was faster and also has more memory. The gtx280 is looking better every price drop it gets but 2x4870 will beat it easy and so will 4870x2 and probably not cost you to much more. Other thing with the 280 is the fact that there is soon to be a new die shrink version of it coming so that would also put me of it.

I'd get a hd4870 now, and maybe upgrade to the 55nm gtx if its gonna be around 300 euros.
Also single gpu card will work better with games, because no need for CF/SLI profiles for games.

2x 4870's will definitely be better as a single card is close to the 280GTX in performance.

i know its 19inch but will i b able to put everythin on high settings and enjoy the gam fully! with decent/exclent fps????

I can do that with my 8800GT!! A 4850 will be plenty for 1280x1024. If you want more power (not needed though) get the 4870. A GTX280 will be totally wasted as will crossfire.
