Turned PC on this morning to be met with a quick set of bleeps, instantly took out a stick of RAM and works fine.

This is now the 3rd time in about a year that a stick has failed and had to be sent for RMA, fair enough it comes back very quickly and they have a very good returns service, but 3 times in a year is a bit daft tbh.

The RAM was bought from OcUK along with the rest of my stuff for a build, all suggested by you fine people ;). Less than happy about now not having my pc for nearly a week, escpecially when i have a week off work and both sticks of RAM need to be sent away and my laptop doesnt have th epower to run WOW :p

I obviously now need to ring up and get this set RMAd, dont suppose i have any chance of a refund or something a year on, because i dont want to have to keep sending them away every 5 months or so, and even if they suggest an upgrade or something, is the same thing oging to keep happening?

I doubt you will get a refund now.

What I find strange - other manufacturers as well as crucial swapped to a different chip because of the higher than normal incidence of failure with D9GMH - yet crucial's ballistix keep on dying even with the new stuff - while so far I've not heard the same from other makes.

As I've said a million times on these forums alone - don't buy ballistix - but people keep on ignoring me.

For peace of mind I would swap it out for some other make. I find g.skill to be fairly good followed by OCZ or corsair value RAM.

Cheers for the quick reply

This RAM was suggested to me by a few people about a year ago when this build was made.

When RMAd how much could i sell this on for then? Cant say i can afford to shell out for some more RAM at the minute, but cant exactly go without it.

ATM i have the 2x1GB PC2 - 5300 stuff, what do you suggest as a replcaement then?

Have a Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI -Express DDR2 Mobo , it going to be better to get 4GB now considering the prices?

Have you contacted them about this yet? Personally I would ask them about replacing with something else or a refund. Doesnt matter if a year has gone by or not as long as still under warranty.. I got a full refund off Dell for a 2.5 year old laptop :)

Will defintaly be asking for a refund, i have emailed them about it and am going to try and get hold of one of their "online technicians" will be ringing tomorrow morning to get it returned.

Definately stand your ground mate. 3 failures is not acceptable at all by any standards.. If you dont get anywhere ring trading standards for some advice, they sorted me out :)

Going to have a look at buying some replacement today, and then sort this out, definatly getting some more and cant really be hanging round for it, will give them a chance to reply and will post their reponse

Its odd how advice changes mind.. Since ive joined the forums I have seen a few posts warning people off ballistix due to it failing a lot..

Contrasts sharply with what you were recommended a year ago..

Have a Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI -Express DDR2 Mobo, am i able to use 6400 RAM as well as 5300 with that, not really up on the compatibilty issues :p

Seems easier to get good 6400 as it is 5300 thats all :)

You can run pretty much any speed of DDR2 in the P965 DS3.

The G.Skill will be fine, but won't offer anything over the PC2-6400 Geil or OCZ that are a good 5-8 quid cheaper.

Will get the GEIL stuff, going to order this now.

have enquired to the trading standards, and am still awaiting a reply from crucial.

Just have the 1 working stick in at the moment, hopefully WOW will work with just 1GB :p

Had my ballistix for well over a year no problems with it guess I been lucky or the early batches were gooduns.
I'd still rather get crucial though as cant be doing with sending ram to taiwan.

Right i have had a word with one of the crucial guys over their live chat thing, he has said that they can replace the modules i have with the new updated one, which should be fine...but ive already ordered the GEIL ones now

Had my ballistix for well over a year no problems with it....

I had 8GBs of PC5300/6400 ballistix for about 18 months, only 1 stick failed in that time (in the first month or so of having it), after the first stick went, I didn't put more than 2.0v through it when running 24/7, and never had any more issues after that.

Also had some of the Geil.....a nice bit of ram, which appeared to be more robust than the ballistix.

My new RAM has been despatched...what to do LOL

I have that new GEIL stuff coming in the next couple of days, and crucial have said that if i RMA the stuff i have it will be replaced with the newer upgraded stuff.

Which am i going to be best keeping, cant use both at the same time do i return the OcUK stuff and use the new crucial, or do i keep the OcUK stuff and flog the new pair of cruical i will be getting?
