Fun car for < £3.5k?

255bhp, as its an import. :)

An import is more than likely going to break his insurance budget though.

I personally think an early Clio 172 is the car for you, a few creature comforts (aircon, half leather etc) pretty good on fuel (35mpg ish mixed driving), costs peanuts to service other than the 5yr cambelt service.

If money for maintenance isnt a problem a polo g40 could be very fun

Though a 172 is proabably the best option

An early 172 can be had in that budget, check out the classifieds on Cliosport :)

This one is a cracker

Change the rear light clusters for some phase 2 lights and you're done :)

Doesn't look bad, unfortunately I live near Liverpool, so that's about 190 miles each way. I've seen a few on Pistonheads, like this which looks nice, and is about 120 miles away, or this which is slightly closer, but in the same direction. Looks like I'm going to have to do a fair amount of traveling though whatever I get.

Does Cliosport have a buying guide or things to look out for? I've signed up to the forums, however to view the "ClioSport Guides" section I believe I have to pay for a membership, and that's where I would have guessed that any such guide would be located.

Does anyone know of any temporary insurance companies that will cover under 21's? Well 20 year olds specifically, as I'd ideally like to find a replacement car before my current insurance runs out.

Be careful with 172 cup's. They have no abs which makes them expensive/uninsurable for a 21 year old. You'd be better sticking to a normal 172 either phase 1 or 2.

Thanks for the replies guys, I've been trying to get a few prices for insurance from a price comparison site for a ball park figure.

Insurance for a GT-Four is just over £2k :o I can't really justify spending more than about £1k or so on insurance.

A supra is group 19 so insurance for that is £2.3k :(

Which 200sx would I really be looking at? S14 presumably?

where are you getting those quotes from seems far to high
at 21 i paid 1.2k for a supra n/a with 0 ncb and 1 fault claim

I used lancaster insurance on a morden classic for first year since then elephant have been cheapest

I've been using comparethemarket.com, with my mother added as an extra driver. Were you paying for tpf+t for fully comp? As all my quotes have been fully comp.

Edit: Sorry, I have been a bit of a noob and got a quote for the 3.0 Turbo :o Insurance for the 3.0i is £730 fully comp

I'd assumed since they were group 16 the insurance would be OK, but it's just over £2k fully comp  (pretty sure I've not filled in any of the forms wrong this time)

Insurance seems to be random since an MR2 of the same year is group 16 or 17 and I can insure it for half of that

Try Direct Line, I got mine with them on a 172 for £1600 with 0 years no claims bonus. They were about £1000 cheaper than anywhere else.

£918.75

That's excellent :D

I had tried them for a quote on an MR2 but they wouldn't even quote me for that so I had my doubts, but that's an excellent price given it's about £1150 less than anywhere else. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

Edit: insurance for a cup is £1,005.90 which isn't too bad either.

5th Gen Prelude, Motegi version not VTI, 200bhp! Vtec YOoo!

£3.5k may even buy a JDM Prelude 220PS, insurance might be a no no though? I was 22 and got mine at £870 fully comp.
