What's a good salary

IT wages of 100k+ are only contract or very high up people in huge companies. most it people will not see above £45k a year imo.

Apparently most students who pass through the IT courses at the uni where my uncle works don't even make that much. Sucks to be getting in to IT unless Lady Luck has rubbed her magic lotion all over you :p

Good grief..
Going on the postings here I'm deprived.

I'm married, a father of three daughters and a mortgage (just 3 years till it's paid off) and this year I'm on target for £30k !!

Single breadwinner for the past 21 years.

btw.. What is this "holiday" thing of which you speaketh ?

As long as you're happy.

Depends, IT is a huge area. If you work hard, get a good degree and work an placement year .. 28k+ after first year is doable. Imo IT is not the right industry to be in if money is your goal there are far more lucrative professions.

I started on a pretty decent graduate salary two years ago. In the past two years its gone up 45% to my current level - yet I seem to only have increased my monthly spending with the increases in salary. So, apart from being "happier" (ie, more hungover + tired), I am not really any better off!

im looking to get out this year at 24! im looking for a 2 bed/3bed in croydon area/purley! i earn 32k basic and working o/t as quite an early day i could make £45 xtra quite easily if i didnt wanna get home so much! i will make another thread but looking for propertys around the £180k mark! does that sound too much for a first time buyer!

How good your salary is, is proportional to how you spend it. A guy who spends half his money on getting ratfaced every weekend on 50k has a bad salary compared to the guy who has 25k and still saves loads while having a great lifestyle.

I think he just feels bad for all the kids going through who think that having a degree in IT automatically means they'll be earning £100k when most of them end up on <£24k

30k in Locks Heath is too low for me so i've got to come up with a self training improvement plan etc.

what sort of salary would a combined two people need in order to have a £200k mortage and 2 kids and 1 car with luxuries like sky, broadband, mobile phones?

50k? Outside London.

Wow. Our combined income is not far from 50K and we only have one car, one child, broadband and PAYG mobiles and a 100k mortgage and some nice bicycles.

I wouldn't like the big mortgage and all the other stuff (especially the two kids)

We do have a big chunk of disposable income and save a fair bit but still...

Yeah - but you save a fair bit. I reckon 50k was a good minimum. Although, if I think £35k + £25k is more likely.
