The GTX 260 is faster than 4870

Majority of us feel the same Will. It brings nothing to the table that most of us will take advantage of. Even if CUDA was launched with G80 GTX in November '06. It would mean nothing to most on these boards. Just as useful for the majority like a 4Ghz Quad core Vs 4Ghz Dual is in games ;).

I had to download that game "Warmonger" to see if the Physx driver worked. It did and the gains I got were impressive :). Game lasted 10 mins and nothing else I have installed or will be playing that will need Physx. Even UT3 when I played on that I never felt at any time that I was missing out because I never had a PPU so I've never felt the burn of not having this in my gaming. When it is widely supported/adopted then both Nvidia and ATI (AMD) will have the capabilities to do this.

For those that enjoy Physx games, would see a great leap in a hobby or work related task then yes, this is something that would really seal the deal between Nvidia and ATI. For the majority of us though, it won't............for now.

Well I'm guessing when a game using Havok comes out then AMD will release some sort of drivers for hardware PhysX and someone should be able to get CUDA working on the 4870/50's, they did on the 3800's.

errr.... I said "ACCORDING TO THIS"

NOT "ACCORDING TO UNDENIABLE FACT"

LEARN TO READ! :)

Learn to use a search engine and use caps lock ;)

And learn not to rely on a single opinion when buying a card which it sounds like you are doing.

When I buy a card I often spend ages looking at reviews and user opinions before choosing.

I feel sorry for the OP as he did not word his Topic carefully but does not deserve the stick he got after spending £100's and many Hours to share his info.

Also find it really funny that a certain peep on last main releases from both Vendors who had a Nvidia, loved to dig at ATI then went to ATI, loved to then dig at Nvidia then got rid of the ATI and went back to Nvidia and again had digs at ATI.

Now I read from Mav's post above this same peep who is currently digging at Nvidia possibly wants a refund on his new ATI card LOL. :D

This thread now seem to be more his personal argument thread instead of the OP's thread (same case that made me get the thread I made a few days ago locked). ;)

a statement entirely based on your opinion. thanks to geforce physics, if those benchmarks are run again even a 8800gt will beat a 4870.

You said it sir. Benchmarks ;).

When it's desired and mainstream then you can continue your song but really it's only the minority that will benefit from this in our gaming. I have Physx support and no desire at all to use it now, tomorrow or next week. Nor have I missed anything since the launch of the Ageia PPU.

For the small minority it is a great thing but most of us don't really need it or desire it. It showed on the 48-- series launch as how many ditched Nvidia even though they knew Physx was coming soon? ;). Answer?, loads and it's still happening. CUDA is amazing but only to those who will find a use for it.

thing is, you want to reply on dodgey drivers from a third party which porgrams in cuda support? im all for third party drivers that add additional resolutions and settings, but having cuda support slapped in is no easy task. look at nvida, even they cant get cuda support to work 100% well in all games. how do yu think dodgey ati drivers from third party members will manage?

as for Havok, its got nothing on cuda. havok = game physics only. and as i have said many times before, cuda is far more than just game physics.

OMG stfu please.

Did i say "I DIDNT BUY A 4870 BECAUSE OF MR.B's REVIEW"?

I said the exact opposite you fool. Now stop sucking my nipple you fanboy.

good bye.

im pretty sure those laptop users stuck with low end geforce gpus are happy with the cuda assists. since those guys cant even upgrade thier cards and the performance boosts cuda provides in not only games but other specialist apps is going to be a god send.

Gotta love your immaturity and if you where around long enough you would see I'm not a fanboy. Just because I'm defending the 4870 saying its the fastest (which it is) does not mean I'm a fanboy.

Why even both posting about shader based AA meaning crap all according to this? I mean why..

helmutcheese this thread is far different from your thread, in that thread you started an argument and was basically acting like a control freak proberbly because you posted the thread and thought you "owned" it. But enough of that.

When I had a 2900XT, I really hated ATi for that, it was an awfull card, total crap, glad I got an 8800GT, that was an awsome card despite paying £188 for it on release and if I had a job I'd have kept that card as it would make a brilliant backup and in some titles the 4870 is not a massive amount in front.

I dont know if I read your post correctly helmnut but I did not udnerstand it fully anyway. I dont see why I have to justify myself but I hate been labelled as a fanboy simply for sticking up for which card is best and that CUDA means nothing at the moment.

Aye true but in all honesty I don't care if ATI implements this for now. I won't find a use for it on my GTX so it wouldn't bother me if I had a 48-- series card. I just thought that singing about CUDA (Mav) when it's not a big thing to most folks is pointless. Proof of that is how many Nvidia users switched to ATI (AMD) even though they knew Physx support was coming and that the 4870 wouldn't support it.

errr..... because its the OP of this thread?

Yes but everything does not revolve around this thread and some people could proberbly think that post made it sound it.

All you have to do is look at reviews to see about the AA situation, then do some searching which would be easy since the 4870 has been talked about a lot and I'm sure bots from google have been crawling all over them and then make a better judgment from that.

you have to be a real fan of ati if you purchased a 2900xt, which you did ;)

The hype on that card was big and a lot of people said it was great, I sold my GTS640, I was planning on getting a 2900XT that round, but I bought an EVGA ACS3 640MB, I was stupid at the time it was worth around £220 and I sold it for £165  for a 2900XT totalling £234 , and I felt sick when I plugged the damn thing in and got the crappy performance I did from that POS of an excuse that came out of ATi. It seems ATi learnt from that and brought out a 4870 thats a massive performance jump from the 3870 which is basically a 2900XT just slightly faster due to its faster memory but its also slower at times proberbly due to the memory bandwidth, but the performance of a 3870 to a 4870 was almost that of an 8800GTX compared to the previous gen, the 4870 is a little bit more powerful than what the 2900XT should have been.

new games tax the shaders more and more. problem with shader based AA is that in the future if games tax the shaders enough, you wont even be able to put on any AA without suffering major performance loss, like the 29 and 38 series did.

The 4870 has 800 compared to the 320 of the 2900/3870, now thats a lot more shaders and by the time they are struggling we will have all moved cards ;)

Oh... will....

I told you to get off my nippple several posts ago.

I have read reviews of the 4870.

My posts in this thread have been in relation to the OP.

I won't buy a 4870, end of story.

Good bye!
