So in theory you will be running a 1gb 4870 if crossfire is not working which at highest res should still be able to keep up with a gtx280 but if it is working then you will be using a card far faster than a gtx280. Does not seem like a bad thing to me.

It looks like any game not on the list is really old with crappy graphics and will be slaughtered by any recent GPU let alone a 4870

LOL....Iracing's not even out yet, I'm on invite only testing at the minute.....it butchers my 8800 with only 4xAA. MSTS is 6 years old, and decimates my sig-rig, and Race07 is under 1 year old.

Bear in mind though, that there is a potential (by means of precedent set by previous xfire/sli benches) for games that do not support xfire to run much worse than they would on a single gpu solution.

Talk about sour grapes, "if my card doesn't support it, if it's not on this tiny list, it's crap" ROFLMAO.

In my case, the x2 would be a total scam, a complete waste of cash and power. While I may have some unique requirements for my driving game obsession (huge amounts of AA, and flatly even framerates), there may well be others who will think they are buying a card that's nearly twice what the 280 can do....only to be broken hearted.

I'm more annoyed than anything, ATI lied through their teeth about it not being xfire.

dunno...but I would say:

4870 X2
9800 GX2
GTX 280
4870
GTX 260
4850
3870 X2
8800 Ultra
8800 GTX
9800 GTX+ = 9800 GTX = 8800 GTS 512mb
9800 GT = 8800 GT
3870 512mb
3850 512mb
8800 GS 768mb

who really cares after that :p

The list sort of changes around depending at which resolution you game though....

Fixed. :)

it makes me laff that fsx players all have 8800 ultras as thats the best card for older single card games elegedly.. well fsx anyway

4870x2 is faster than a 280?

How so?

A single 4870 is slower, and the x2 still uses xfire, so in 99% of games, you're only using an ordinary 4870.

news flash, it's not 2005 anymore.

most newer titles support crossfire including Crysis, i know because i'm using 2 4850's.

it's not perfect and nobody ever pretended it was/is but to say 99% of games are unsupported shows a lack of knowledge on the subject.

lol this list is a joke right?

pcmark 0*, 3dmark0* (which is a crock because 06 is supported ..and 05 i think), Tiger 2004, NHL 06, TechDemo.exe? :), KingKingDemo ...but my personal favourite is .....*drum roll* AcroRd32.exe

no crossfire support for acrobat reader???? i'm just speechless :p

LMAO

Well, you can see the number of games on the list.
You can consider the number of games available for the platform.
You can work out your own percentages.

New flash for you......
Newer games are not always better than older ones.

I suppose I should forget all my old games and play grid? Or can you mention some driving games which are GOOD that support xfire?

I said..."if your main games are not on the list, buy a single 4870 and save the cash/power/heat" (in not so many words).
But you seem to suggest they should still buy the extra, unused, gpu....do ATI need charity? I wouldn't have thought so.

I'm disappointed because I was waiting to see this new "xfireless" dual gpu....and it's vapourware.

I'm also annoyed that I'll have to buy a 280, when I really didn't want to. But it's faster than a 4870 and offers better AA (32x vs 24x, and don't start the 4x is enough nonsense).

No, that's the list of things that ARE supported.

/me beats head on wall.

Not my list.
I asked if there was a list, or if ATI kept it secret to sell more snake oil, and that is the list I was given, on these very fora.

i don't see where i gave you or anyone else buying suggestions? all i did was rebuke you're claim that crossfire doesn't work.

any recent single card can run those older games on their ear so the whole "it doesnt support crossfire" is moot anyway.

most of the decent simulated racing games have poor gpu related code....not much you can do but stick with strong single cards.

because there buggy lol ***hides from the one who thinks he is the real deal***

directed at me per chance?

because i corrected you on the 48xx microstuttering in another thread i guess ......sheesh it's like discussing stuff with kids in this forum, if you don't want to be corrected for being wrong then don't post.

i personally think the 4870x2 is a dissapointment and a rip off at it's current pricing.

Sorry, didn't mean to put words in your mouth.

My only intention in posting about the non-universality of xfire was for people who, like me, predominantly play non-supported games.

As I said, it looks like a 280 for me, as although my games all run at high fps, I'd really like that with 32ssAA, for reasons discussed elsewhere (basically, the nature of car games makes aliasing REALLY obvious and annoying, mainly due to the "crawling" artifacts it creates on small movements).

TBH, I'm just in a bit of a mood about it all because I really fancied givin ATI another chance after my painful (though perfectly performant, let's give credit where it's due) 9800pro, and it seems that sticking to NV is actually my better option.

4870 X2
GTX 280
9800 GX2 (similar performance to GTX280 but relies on SLi)
4870
GTX 260
4850
9800 GTX+
3870 X2
9800 GTX
8800 Ultra
8800 GTS 512mb (same as 8800GTX but cooler and uses less power)
8800 GTX
8800 GT = 9800 GT
3870 512mb
3850 512mb
8800 GS 768mb

I think that's better, and gives reasons for some of the choices. I've moved the 9800GTX+ above the 3870X2 as the AA performance on the ATI card was poor and I think the nVidia one is about the same as a 4850?

I thought duplicate accounts was a bannable offence? :p

for a guy like you crossfire shows it's obvious limitations, and yeh ATI haven't delivered anything new with the X2 which is why it's a dissapointment to me both in technology and price.

we were all hoping for a next-gen bridge in which the card would act as a single gpu as well as shared memory ....maybe next time :)

Have you seen me claiming it was buggy?
No
Have you seen me claiming it's a POS?
No.

Are you disputing what I have said?

I have said, xfire does not work in the games I play. Are you saying it does?
