Acronis on P5Q-PRO?

Isn't the Acronis recovery CD basically a Linux live CD? If so it'll be suffering the same problem most Linux distros are so far with that board. Try changing the Sata mode (there are only two options) in the BIOS and boot again, that usually fixes it. Unless you have RAID set up; in which case wait for someone who actually has this board :D

cheers, think my drive is setup as ide atm and not ahci or whatever, thing is if i change it wont it corrupt my vista install?

Honestly, I don't know so please wait for more qualified advice :) I just know, as a Linux fan, that the P5Q is so new most Linux kernels can't handle it yet - especially regarding it's hdd setting in BIOS.

As far as I know, short of taking the drive(s) out and putting them in another machine (or USB/Firewire enclosure if you have one) then I think you'll be limited to either backing up within Windows or making a BartPE disk.

Things like the UBCD4Win and these Acronis plugins help with the BartPE route for novices if you choose to go there.
