As title. Is there any place for this in the UK ?

Can it ever be regulated in the same manner as traditional slaughter?

How was this method ever allowed in the first place in the UK?

More and more people are coming forward saying that it causes more suffering for the animal, and there are a greater number of places that don't kill the animal in a few seconds, and its left to suffer.

Plus the vast majority of the UK don't eat it.

I thought the whole point of halal was that it caused less suffering - or at least when it was originally conceived, that was the plan.

Given the huge number of people in the UK who eat Halal food, yes it is perfectly acceptable. I cannot see how it is any more traumatic for the animal.

I suppose shooting and electrocution don't? I'm not sure there is really a nice way to kill...

There is enough over-regulation of the sector as it is.

This method of slaughtering animals consists of a swift, deep incision with a sharp knife on the neck, cutting the jugular veins and carotid arteries of both sides but leaving the spinal cord intact. The objective of this technique is to more effectively drain the body of the animal's blood, resulting in more hygienic meat, and to minimize the pain and agony for the animal.

Yeah thats my point. It's MEANT to, but the reality is that the animals are suffering more, being dragged around and left gasping for breath in their own blood, or strung up writhing around.

Sounds like a bolt is a much more humane method to me..

If you really want to ensure how the animal is treated, raise it and slaughter it yourself.

halal cutting throat letting it bleed to death.

The way we do it is to blast a bolt into the front of its head which destroys it's frontal lobs (basically it's now brain dead and wont feel anything from this point on) but leaves the brain stem intact (so the heart still beats) then slitting its throat. iirc

Why should Halal be banned when we tolerate veal, foie gras and other questionable practices? I don't disagree that Halal slaughter methods should be questioned, and just because it's in someone's religion it doesn't mean it can't be banned - but lets concentrate on the log in our own eye before we remove the splinter in our brother's eye eh?
