Hi all. Bought new bit few weeks ago and have posted a few threads regarding o/c my processor (see sig). Now I seemed to have hit a wall @ 3ghz (300x10) with my Geil 667 mem (1:1 ratio). Now, I made a schoolboy error by installing my memory in dimm slots A1 and A2 (yellow & orange, single chan) as opposed to A1 and B1 (both yellow, dual chan). Have now rectified. Would this have caused my 3ghz wall? Also what is the average vcore for a 333x10 (1:1) overclock? Is 1.55v too high?

p.s. I know that all cpus o/c differently :D

667 memory is running under spec at 300x10, so no way is it holding up your overclock.

And 1.55v is about 0.2v higher than you should ever need for 3ghz. I've a terrible clocking E2180 atm, but it still does 3ghz on 1.33v (as read by CPU-Z, not what is set in the BIOS).

Ok so I've had a quick mess and have lowered the multi and upped the FSB 400x8. It has booted up with no probs so far......

Should I tighten the ram to 4-4-4-12? I've manually set the mem v @ 2.1 which is what it states in the modules.

Ooops mis-read the 333x10 bit. 1.55v is high, but some of these chips are crap clockers.

Tho 1.51v for 3.2ghz is very high. How far can you get on the stock voltage?

Stock vcore is probably 1.325v, tho Core Temp will tell you it (it's called VID).

The strap doesn't really have any effect. I would set it to the lowest one that gives you a good memory speed option.

The link doesn't work btw.

above link fixed.

the lowest option is 200 so i'll give that a try if it doesn't work i'll leave it on auto.

Would upgrading my memory to 800 make a difference? Would this give me 'more headroom'? I get the gist of this term but not sure what it means to my system

200 may be a little too low if you're running a 400mhz FSB.

No real need for 800mhz memory with an E2180. And from the screenshot above it looks like yours can run at 800mhz anyway.

Well I just tried Orthos with the settings form above screenie and got blue screen after a minute. Reverted back to 300x10 for the time being. :(

Had mine at 1.575v to get 3.2GHz but temps are fine under tuniq tower so not a problem, unfortunately cant get it stable any higher regardless of volts. (VID 1.325v)

1.325Vid here too ..

does 2.9 gig at 1.425 Bios (1.36 under load) - but requires 1.51 V Biox for 3.0 gig

300fsb wall - won't go above

daren't try 8x400 as last time I tried a big jump in fsb like that with my Q it was a battery out cmos reset job a real pain

thinking of changing it for a E7200
