Hey,

For my A2 Economics coursework, you have to pick a topic to write about and research. Mine is
'Has the rise of digital distribution technologies increased the sales of PC games in the last 3 years?'

Obviously, Steam is the biggest way to distribute games (legally) at the current time, so all I need to know is whether you have bought a game from Steam. The key word is bought, as just using it doesn't count :)

This essay title isn't set in stone though, so if people have a better way to word it, or perhaps a slightly different theme, please tell!

Also, if a mod could possibly turn this into a poll, with the options Yes, No (and any others you can think off), it would be appreciated :)

Thanks.

I have bought games from the following:
Steam
Direct2Drive
EA Store
Impulse

Steam isn't the only one in existance, you should check the others out.

Yes, have bought loads of games from steam.

This survey is going to be very one sided since your asking on a pc games forum. :)

Yes I bought Shadowgrounds survivor from Steam

I al so got Sins of a solar empire from stardock, as I think most people have due to it not getting a release in europe. (It did eventually 6 months later). I'm sure theres quite a few on this forum that did that.

That bit may help too.

i got my orange box for £17 retail when it was about £40 on steam
i like to get my games cheap as possible to be honest

personally i have only used steam as a purchasing medium once for counterstrike source
and i was immediatly put off by the fact that all prices are not localised
and do not include relavent taxes

i think steam lose out on this

i have a friend in the office who only uses direct2drive and sings its praise

but i would never pirate due to principle

Orange Box and Peggle (since it was so, cheap.) I would use it for Value games, since they all use Steam you might as well get it direct from the site, but not for anything else.

I tend to buy em retail then register them on Steam, usually cheaper.

Oh I didn't know you could do that. So I bought Grid, could I register that on there and then when I move to another PC, my steam account would download it? Does this allow me to be able to not use the dvd to play the game?

Yes.

Even purchased games I probably wouldn't of picked up at retail just because it's so easy to do. Like the Call of Duty War Chest.

Yes here, bought HL2, the additionals eps, Orange box, peggle, ragdoll kung fu and the music/rhythm action game whos name i currently cannot remember :).

Yes...

HL2:Ep1
Orange Box

Not all retail games allow you to register with steam however... mostly works with those that were released retail at the same time as Steam, not games like Doom3 and Prey which were released to Steam ages after...
