I should have said that it was a surprise to me. I didn't even know there was a 10km swimming event.

New medal event to these Olympics. The organising body of world Open water swimming did originally want a 25K race, but were pursuaded by FINA to cut it down to 10K to get a better chance of it being accepted by the IOC as an Olympic event. Britain has been strong in the world series with several medals by different swimmers.

Cassie Patten also came second in last years world champs held in Melbourne despite her being stung several times by jellyfish. Kerri Ann Payne was leading that race for most of it before being stung quite badly in the mouth and dropping to 11th at the end.
There were several swimmers who pulled out completely after being stung and loads who finished in tears.

This Olympic race was very easy compared to some events and locations, hence I was expectinmg quite a bit more from our girls.

Ineteresting quote from Cassie Patten after the Melbourne race

"The stings were very painful but I tried to concentrate on getting to the end - and to be honest they helped to keep you alert, as you're out there for such a long time," she said.

Actually turning being sting by several jelly fiish into sounding like it was a good thing, this girl is so mad she is cool.

LOL

Ukrainian Heptathlete tested positive in drugs test, and may get her medal taken off her when IOC have a metting.

May?!? - I think thats will and shell be banned from future olympics which she was lucky enough to avoid when she was caught in 2003 and banned for 2 years...

ps3ud0

Finishing behind three superpowers isn't anything to be ashamed of.

Indeed not, at the start of the Games I'd have quite happily taken anywhere in the top ten as there are some traditionally strong nations who have underperformed here.

And in other news there is another guaranteed bronze in the boxing with James Degale and it could still be better than that after he progresses to the semis.

Did anyone see the end credits to the BBC highlights last night? The ones Gabby Logan presents.

Pictures of loads of different chairs\thrones etc played to the tune of James - Sit Down showing all our guys\gals winning medals. It was awesome. :p

Nice that we're poking fun at the Aussies for once. :D

Is anyone else getting increasingly fed up with Ohuruogo?

I personally don't think she should have been allowed to attend the Olympics on the basis that missing drugs tests should carry the same penalty as failing them.

Now I notice that she's "annoyed" by constant references to her past

Maybe you should have turned up for those tests then! She's come up with excuses for why she didn't attend the tests which may or may not be accurate but the fact remains that she knew what the penalty for missing them would be and still did so. If you're at that level of athletics you make damn sure you attend the tests and, if you genuinely can't, contact the authorities ahead of time and try to sort something out.

She should be damned grateful she's even there to win the medal, not complaining about people referring to her past history.

A couple of Olympic beauties on the Chinese channel "Sporno": :)
