Is Usain Bolt clean?

So if HGH was taken off the 'list' would I be clean if I took bucketloads and turned into the incredible hulk?

At the end of the day it's very arbitary what they ban. It it was allowed I'd think no different to if you took protein or vitamin and mineral supplements or similar.

Great ability but if he'd have exchanged effort over arrogance in the final 20% of the race he'd have perhaps broken 9.6 secs instead, If I were his coach he'd have had a right bollocking

I wonder if Michael Johnson's 200M record will go.

Can't see it myself.

First of all, he won't need to run anywhere near 19.32 to win, even something around 19.6 will likely be enough. He won't be under pressure (assuming he were to be doing sub-19.5 pace) and thus will be able to cruise home.

Secondly, MJ's record is INSANE, nobody has even got remotely close to it before. Some 12 years later, the closest anyone has ever got was a whopping 0.3s back. Whereas in the 100m, there was a fair chance that someone else might have run pretty close to Bolt's time (Powell for example has run 9.77 or under no fewer than 4 times). 9.69 isn't some superhuman achievement that we couldn't see coming.

^ Agree. His 200m record is probably the most impressive demolition of a world record I've ever seen and will ever likely see.

I was very wrong about Bolt beating the 100m record but I'll happily bet my post count that he won't beat MJs 200m record.

Loved it, loved it, loved it. What a character he is, as well as being so athletically gifted. It made the spectacle even better for me at least.

Due to the sheer dominance of his win, easing up on the last few meters means he can now break his record again at another event. It's just never been seen before, a sprinter to be so far ahead of the pack in the 100m, whereas before the runners had to give it their all, 100% of the time to win.

I certainly think Bolt is capable of beating MJ's 200m record but I'm not sure he will this time round. He seems like the type of guy that is happy to do just enough to win.

He'll only break it, if and when there's good enough competition so that he has to.

^Which pretty much means we'd need at least one other guy running sub-19.4s, something I can't see happening for a while.

maybe someone can but theyre bluffing him into thinking that theyre slow :p

he only started running 100 recently to practics his starts for 200 didnt he ?

i think he could easily beat it if he trys and i also think he might try now because he seems to beloving all this hype and the "fastest man on the planet" talk

also hes got nothing to lose by going flat out this time. imagine if he had overdone it on saturday and missed his main event the 200m through injury

I know the testers have to view it that way but it would be exceptionally naive to say "clear test = clean" for the purposes of discussion.

But discussion about potential drugs he could be taking are pointless as in the eyes of the federations and the testers, he is clean.

why speculate about what he could be taking until he says he is doing something wrong or he is caught doing something wrong?

The presence of drugs has changed the outlook of athletics competitors to a guilty until proven innocent mentality in many peoples eyes.

But the fact is, until an athlete has been proven to have taken substances banned by the IOC etc, what else is there to say other than congratulations and see you at the next drug test date.

To say that an athlete could be taking something that isn't on the banned substances list leaves any number of possibilities and it would be terrifically hard for the drug testers to try and stay ahead of the dopers than always being one step behind as they are atm.

Your first paragraph negates about half of the threads on this forum. (About the government etc - what's the point in discussing anything?)

Second paragraph: Because that is what this thread is about? Was Linford Christie clean whilst THG was undetectable? Should discussion of that have been banned?

Finally, I hope he is clean because if he is then he is phenomenal.

Problem is if he is never proven guilty and retires will you never consider his achievements phenomenal?

...that even after an athlete has been proven innocent dozens of times, they are still guilty in the eyes of some, just they haven't been caught yet.

Well, now that the 200m record is history, this guy have just became the greatest short distance track athlete of all time. He is the first guy to simultaneous hold the 100m and 200m record.
