Core temp, HW monitor & PC wizard all reporting 65 idle

Bios 25 EH :confused:

Board is GA33M DS2R latest bios & stock settings.

Cooling is Sycthe Mine' with a Yate loon 120mm fan on it & MX2 paste
re-seated 3 times to make sure

works OK apart from that but not stressed it yet

opinions :confused:
 
I'm idling at 33C/43C (core temp core 1/2). Running @ stock with the stock cooler, so yeah i'd say that's high

Considering the cooler I think the 25 degrees in the bios sounds closest to the truth. Try touching the cooler near the base whilst on, should soon be able to see which is correct.
 
I've done that & all the heatpipes are stone cold! Done a quick google, there are forum posts all over the web about this problem!

Right, I've been stressing it with orthos for 15 mins & temps does not seem to go above 70!

I find that so ODD!
 
If the heatpipes are cold then there is no way the thing is 65 degrees (unless it is making no contact at all, but it would probably be dead by now if that was the case).

At the end of the day motherboards aren't acurate with temps and the software/bios can also be well off the mark. If you don't trust the measurments I find a simple rule is if it is too hot to touch for 5 seconds, then it is too hot :)

Which could mean there isn't good contact between the chip and the heatsink.
 
mmm, I'd say that's quite hot. Mine is idling at 25c - 28c and full load in Orthos is 45c @ priority 8, and this is in a HTPC case with a Mini Ninja. Tried reseating your cooler?
 
If the cpu temps are high but the heatsink base cold then it points towards a contact problem, are both the cpu and heatsink flat? I know some cpus had the concave issue a while back.

Checked the board, & all the pins are in. Wasn't a problem with the last chip in there (2180) 35 idle, 45 load.

If your CPU cooler is seated properly I'd say your BIOS is probably quite accurate. The applications for monitoring temps all report different things, you can't take any of them seriously.

Latest version of Core Temp is 0.99.3. There's a thread about it, currently somewhere near the top of this forum.

IntelBurnTest is worth a try. If it's stable with this, you have nothing to worry about. It's a quick test, too. No need for 8 hours of Prime, Orthos, etc.
