Goldeneye 64

goldeneye was legendary
it took me literally a whole summer to finish the game on 007 mode.....was so worth it
i also remember when i first played the facility level the last objective was something like 'blow up gas tanks' and since i was young (and naive) back then i thought these were actual tanks so i would fight off all the never ending enemies that were there after they had killed 006 and i was waiting for tanks to arrive so i could blow them up...lol, like they would come down the stairs or something
i learned the error of my ways when my bro smacked me round the head

+1 :p

This invokes some of the best memories of uni for me.

Oh and thank the lord for asbob49's bro smacking him round the head. From the sounds of it he would still be waiting for the tanks now if he hadn't :)

I still have my 64. I have Goldeneye, Yoshi story, Wave Race, Mario Kart. Few others but cant remember off top of my head 'cos its all packed away.

I never played Goldeneye but over the years I heard so much hype about it I wanna buy a 64 now just to see what it was about. Why is this game talked about so much?

I think Goldeneye needs to be left to die now. I played it again a couple of years back, and it just wasn't the same. :(

Oh the fun we had when it was first released!. Monday mornings at 9am at my best mates house with tequila and cheap beer for a bash on Goldeneye, then off to college. Those were the days... :)

Golden eye was one of the best multiplayer games along with Super Mario Kart (snes), Unreal tournerment, Super Bommerman etc

I have a N64 in mint condition with Goldeneye and a few other games.... If anyone wants to buy it?

Incredible game when it was released, wouldn't fancy playing it now though.
It still holds up, i played it the other week round a mates.
Frame rate is a little shakey, but i still class it as the best FPS on a console to date.

It's been outclassed multiple times over, there are generic run-of-the-mill shooters on modern consoles that are far more enjoyable than this due to natural evolutions and progressions of the FPS genre. Some people here really need to take the rose-tinted specs off.

What a bloody great game. I remember having eight friends taking it in turns playing multiplayer... Good times. :D I wish games were being made today that made me feel the same way. :p

I got a pang in the heart when you said that :( totally argee....where's the magic gone?

It's called growing up. The vast majority loved Goldeneye in their childhood, games aren't the same when you're older. It takes a hell of a lot for me to get excited over new games now, compared to not being able to sleep for weeks when I heard I was getting an N64 and Goldeneye for my birthday as a young'un :p

Totally agree with that as well. :p

It sucks so much. :( Goldeneye, Sonic Adventure, Super Mario 64... No games have even come close to making me as happy or excited. I'm pretty excited about Mercs 2, but nothing will ever come close to the enjoyment I got from Goldeneye.

Yeah, because playing it mere weeks ago means i had those specs on.
Oh yes, im gonna do it, im gonna use a....

I still think its pretty good, and ive played it recently so i can still comment without getting nostalgic.
Some classic games still hold up well today, and in my opinion, GoldenEye is one of them.
Thats MY opinion. Live with it.
Lets not let this thread degenerate like every GoldenEye thread does into a Halo vs GoldenEye flamewar.

Absolutely stunning game, I loved it. Likewise, completed everything on it but it was hard work, especially the Aztec (?) level!

The music, play style, guns, levels, all spot on.

Got the old heart pounding when you triggered an alarm as well! Some of the levels were very atmospheric too, like the one set in the snowy region with the radar dishes.
