Well my spec is in sig - cpu at stock, gpu at max overclocke in CCC and 3DMark 06 rekons i score 11000...........

What a crock of crap - my old 8800GTS used to get 10900 and that was crap. My games now run at least 30-40fps quicker with my 4700. I wish it wasnt so CPU dependant! Its just plain wrong!
 
I know what you mean, with my 4850 / Q6 I hit around 15k under vista and a lot of folks have told me they could get that with 8800's I felt ripped off at first until I realised that in real world terms I had more under the hood than 06 was letting on.
 
I fell for that one too. 3DMark06 isn't a good way to measure performance with the new generation. I got massive gains in COD4 and Rainbow6 Vegas2. Not so much in older stuff like rFactor & GTR2. ;)
 
A stock e6600 will be bottle-necking you in 06 as the programme asks more from the cpu compared to the more gpu draining modern games.

I think if you had OC'ed the cpu you would be finding that the peak score with 4700 would be even further ahead of the peak with the 8800.
 
This is what you get for using a out of date 3D mark version, it will do this with a lot of new cards, as will even older versions. Use Vantage or dont use any.
 
Agreed. It's also down to the drivers, Nvidia and ATi aren't optimizing for 06 anymore, even with my "old" 8800s, I lost 1000 points when moving from 169.25 to 177.79 whilst Vantage along with virtually every game I play showed significant improvements.

Henceforth, I think any gains in 06 will be down to coincidence rather than intent.

You could try forcing a higher resolution and applying aa+af - you'll need the pro version to do so - this might allow the new drivers/cards to make use of their resources.

At the default settings (1280x1024/no aa/af) it's now effectively a rogue benchmark, at least in my experience.

Vantage is for those whom use Vista which i wont until i am dragged out by my teeth and flogged with a dead pony until i bleed from the backside - naked, with cream on my nipples.
 
Clock your e6600 a bit and you should see a fair jump in 3dm06, as an example my previous e6600 @3700mhz with an 8800gts 512@795/1095/2040 scored just under 15000 in 06 also in xp.
