Reading and Leeds 2008

I got back this morning, had a fantastic time!

Rage were just epic and Metallica were brilliant (i'm not a Metallica fan personally). I choose to watch the Manics over Killers saturday night and i'm very glad i made that choice.

Just got back from reading, stayed in a mates tent last night and OH MY GOD at the riots.

But all in all I enjoyed it, pendulum put on an impressive show, tenacious D were pretty funny and everyone knew the words to their songs, and I spent the entirety of metallicas set in the HUUUGE pit as they put on an awesome show and got me into it.

I'm now horribly bruised but all in all I had a good time :)

What were the riots like in Reading?

At Leeds there was an absolutely massive fire in the middle with 100's of people crowded round it. Then people were sending gazebos and tents over the top of the crowd from miles away to chuck on it. Same with aerosols being launched from all over, never seen explosions like it in my life.

It started escalating later on, the wooden posts got pulled down and thrown on too, one nearly hit this girl in a tent when I was on my way home.

A lot, lot worse than last year put it that way.

Nothing too bad at Reading this year, certainly not as many gas canisters going up as in previous years. Still far too many rampaging ****heads for my liking - it makes me wonder just how repressed all these 16 year old middle class kids are for the rest of the year that they lose it so bad come Reading.

Metallic where simply in a different league to any other band.
rage where amazing
Fratellis sucked
Get cape, where cape, fly. Were one of the best bands there.. :o...
The introducing stage was great.

Neeedddd sleeeeppp

Been reading peoples reviews on Reading + Leeds and it seemed like it was a good weekend, just a shame about the indie pop loving fags that populated both festivals apparently!

How would you rather the festival be filled? Why do you care what music people enjoy?

If you are going to keep posting crap can you just leave the forum?

Watched it on BBC 3 on saturday night and last night, looked pretty good - was disappointed with the killers though.
Metallica were ace, glad I saw them at Wembley last year though when they did a much longer set.

Best bands for me were Rage, Justice, Pendulum then a bit further down the scale Subways, Enemy, Cribs, We Are Scientists and Dizzee.

Never bothered watching the killers. Was going to watch them from the back after bullet. Got there and it wasnt that great tbh. So we walked back to the NME tent to watch the manics.

Flogging Molly was mental, as was goldfinger. Front both times aswel :D

Yeah, they were great! Was thrilled to have finally gotten to see RATM, really enjoyed QOTSA, Tenacious D and Dropkick Murphys were great as well though DKM seemed to have a pretty poor sound.

It was nice to be back at Leeds after going to Reading last year, plus the guest/disabled camp site is only about a five minute walk from the arena which was brilliant. The bar in the guest area was handy as well, it was nice to be able to have a few pints in a quiter area every now and then.

I was dissapointed with the Killers, seems a lot of others were.

On other stages, Vampire Weekend had such a good atmosphere, and the sing alongs were awesome.
Justice were amazing, although this being my first time i couldnt see them being bad.
Cribs were as always awesome, managed to get right to the front which was excellent.
Also, Crystal Castles were pretty good, especially with the techie pulling her off stage.
Loved the weekend, and after all the stories i heard about the riots, even with a huge fire near us it seemed to be mostly self inflicted burning, didnt feel it to be bad at all.

did anyone find the trolley war this year at reading?

We were at it in 2005, but couldn't find anyone doing it last year.

Basically on the metal roads are two trolleys with drunk people in being rammed at each other after a run-up, with a huge crowd going "Trolley, trolley.. trolley, trolley, trolley" :p

Not long got back from leeds myself. Last night was a bit mental, especially when some idiots tried to set fire to the tree next to our campsite. That fire attracted maybe 200 people and we had to move all our tents back to stop them being burnt. Anyone who wasnt guarding their tent lost it. The worst thing was security came and said they werent going to do anything about it at all until the crowd had dispersed. It was understandable when the guy explained but still a bit worrying.

Highlights for me were Justice, The Subways, Beans on toast and the whip. Got too close for QUotSA so couldnt really hear them because the crowd was so rammed.

Did anyone else thing the sound on the main stage was totally broken? Specially a bit further back. It seemed to keep fading in and out, really spoilt the main acts for me, especially rage :(

Back from Leeds, just had first shower since Thursday :D. Loved Metallica and Rage, saw the start of the killers but then got bored so went to see the gallows who were immense, telling everybody to turn around and tell the killers to go **** themselves! Then at the end throwing the microphone stand into the crowd and two amps. He even told people to add him on Xbox live and have a game of call of duty 4 with him!

Was disappointed that A7X had the flu and only played 4 songs, but otherwise the pits for rage and metallica were great, and even for pendulum where it was so hard to even breathe.

Great weekend!

Had an awesome time. Riots were a bit mad... some **** threw my flysheet into a fire when I was packing away :/ Was somewhat apocalyptic, and tribal, actually.

Music was awesome, only band that were a let-down for me were MGMT... absolute crap live.

Anyone see Avenged Sevenfold on Friday, where they got that blonde on stage, and she broke down? Was a right laugh :D

Time for a nap, methinks.
