Two must see Warhammer Online Vids...

I have known that this game was coming for a while now but I haven't really looked into it that much until today and from what I am reading and watching I think that this is going to be the MMO that gives WoW a real run for its money. I'm looking forward to playing it for sure!
I wrote this one off but the more I see, the more I am inclined to break my no PvP rule.

i dont expect anyone to buy the game on the strength of the videos nor do i expect anyone to know how the game actually plays after watching them.. they were posted so those buying the game who havent played in the beta can briefly see the different classes, how they look and their play styles.

tbh only those (of us) who played in the closed beta know whether the game is good enough , whether its fun and whether its worth buying and in my opinion it ticked all the boxes (regardless of low res gfx) ....

The video was blurry and zoomed out so you couldn't see fluidty of animation, so by fluid and fast paced I can only take it you mean time to kill is low so you can spam spells from target to target quickly?
WAR has a pretty high time to kill, no 3 second kills there, and it was made to be this way. So fights can be skillful and tactical - rather than unload lots of damage quickly. This can still happen if multiple DPS assist train, but on the whole combat requires more thought. it's one of the things I like. I can go play TF2 for insta spam kills.

very much back to mmo roots for this title it seems, tactical combat choices rather than the winner is the one who can spam all his combos the quickest

i also like that they have given tanks a dual role, pure tanking with shield or high dps through big 2h weapons, giving them a pvp role as generally a pvper isnt going to attack you just because you are a tank, they will attack you though if you are hammering your way through their team though

aye, i also like that tanks can also play a vital part in pvp too. Because of the player colloision tanks can defend the "squishy" bit litrually standing in there way, also with knockbacks too.
:D

so if a player is targeting a caster but you are in the direct path of the attack itll hit you instead?

Nice. I assume casts that spawn under the target are exempt though and only attacks/spells that require direct path will hit you instead...still nice

Ranged attacks still hit their target, but tanks have a guard ability which you can place on a friendly target, this splits all damage aimed at your guarded target between you and the target.

hmm would have been nicer for tanks to trigger a LOS check or something..or have the guard "buff", when enabled, to auto proc onto allies standing directly behind you or cone behind etc

im sure ill adjust regardless

im just glad the casters arent so squishy as wow's - anyone whos ever played a warlock and been ganked by a rogue in BG's knows just how much non-fun it is.

Agreed.

As to the grfx, even on low as they were in beta the poly count was far higher than WoW and in places where completed lighting was inplace the game looked great.

Say you did develope a game based on mass RvR using graphics comparable to Crysis for example. Now imaging your users turning up to a keep take with 100 attackers and 100 defenders....no chance at all anyones PC would be keeping up with that.

you only have to look at the mess seiges are in AoC, and thats with much lower player counts

and now they want to add 300 player battles...good luck

The kills are speedy in that vid but thats just because the guy filming was a much higher level than the people he was massacring.

What I meant was in WoW, you move around a lot. You can only attack someone who is directly infront of you so people are CONSTANTLY trying to get behind each other. As a rogue you would constantly stun people, run behind them, backstab, spin 360 and blind the person behind you, spin again to finish of the other guy, sprint away, restealth, come back for the guy.

In all the WAR vids I've seen the two stand there and use moves untill one of them dies.

Well this is still a new game (heck its not even out yet !) so people are still getting used to how to play classes.
I doubt that if given a rogue in WoW 3 years ago you would be able to do as you described so easily as you wouldnt have a clue what abilitys do what etc etc.

I'm not sure why they do that either, I do what I do in FPS, run and jump around the target :p. Most war skills only hit targets directly in front, so running and strafing do pay off.
The class i'm going for retail (WH) also gets damage bonus for attacking from behind on certain attacks, and also has some positional and reactionary attacks (i.e. disarms + damage if used after enemy parries).
I guess in these vids people haven't really played the classes and just record as they mouse click the taskbar buttons.

Also in the vids on the first page of this thread he does state that i have not played all these classes that much. I think it was more just to show what you can be and do.
