iRacing release price details

I run on vista x64 without issue.

Have you tried completely disabling NOD32? Just to make 100% sure it isn't that, plus any other antivirus/malware/firewall software.

I guess you have tried all the usual vista things like starting as admin etc etc.

Failing that check your windows event log for the error from the iR server process.

Hasn't convinced me yet. :) Similar issues to my experiences with Rfactor, the FF is weird with my MSFF wheel. LFS seems to communicate well, I can feel the front wheels under load, rumble strips and the weight transitioning seems fine. But in iRacing there's more input lag, less response from road bumps/strips and I REALLY don't like speed sensitive steering (but that doesn't come into play much.) Oh, and I don't like the sounds, and the graphics are average (except for the full shadows in the cockpit - lovely.) Right that's enough bashing, and I fully understand it could be my wheel at fault.

I plan to get a G25 soon, but it's frustrating that a wheel that feels so nice in one game doesn't transfer well to others. But then it is probably 6 yrs old. I've tried turning off enough details/vsync etc. to keep the fps above 100, but hopefully there's more tweaking I can do in a config file somewhere to save me buying a G25 for a little longer :) . Anyone in East London I can try your G25 out?

I've only been around Lime Rock in the Solstice so far BTW.
This is how its meant to feel, it's replicating the solstice power steering.

The general opinion is that get your rating up, buy a skippy and then judge the feeling/handling.

Oooh sexy, feel free to mention me (Edward Leake)! :D

Perhaps we should have a list so we can all benefit from the referal scheme?

Hi Bigsy,

Thanks for the reply.

Have tried disabling NOD32 totally, but didn't make any difference. Next step with that is to uninstall and see if that makes a difference. Don't think there is any other virus/blocking software running, but will do a hunt just in case.

Yup, tried running as admin, setting compatibility mode etc.

Not checked the windows event log though, will have a hunt for that.

Cheers

Taff

BTW Nutrition do you need a G25?

In my GPL days I used to run a MSFF it was great with that game and iR isn't a million miles away from it. I have however recently upgraded to a logitech force pro as my MSFF was so old and loose. Big improvement!

My m8 has a G25 which is nice but I honestly don't think its that much better than the DFP. Especially when you consider I paid just £47 delivered for my DFP new! (its cheap atm because there is the new DFGT, which is aimed at the new GT on the PS3, it doesn't add much for a pc user).

Granted it doesn't have a H box or clutch, personally I never had them so I'm not going to miss them. Its cheap as chips, FF feels 99% of that of the G25 (in fact I find the DFP stronger, G25 just feels a tad tighter). However it does have many more useful buttons on the wheel itself, plus you can have up to 900 degree rotation just like the G25.

I can't wait till I can drive the Skippy, gonna have to wait a while at the current rate though, managed to go from 3.48 to 3.45 last night, but via a high of 3.65 :p

I don't agree with all the Solstice haters though, it's kinda fun in a 'How can I get this damn thing to not understeer through that corner' kinda way, It responds really well to using the brakes to change the weight distribution.

I really enjoyed lime rock park, and now i'm down into the 1:50's at laguna seca it's starting to feel nice there as well, I don't think I'll completely give up on the solstice even when I've got the skippy to drive as well :)

Who really needs a G25? ;) More a case of, it'd be nice, and I have a friend who'll buy the MSFF off me (for not much obviously).

I haven't done any online stuff yet. I take it the incidents occured in 'Test' don't affect the rating? What times do you recommend I aim for on Seca and Lime before I get online?

Yeah, testing and practice incidents don't count, qualifying, warmup and time trial incidents are only weighted at 0.35 iirc, whilst race ones are weighted fully at 1

I started on Laguna Seca when I was in the high 1:51's and didn't bother qualifying (in the hope that i'd start near the back), but time doesn't overly matter as there are people who consistantly lap in the 1:55/56's racing.

It's more just (for me at least) knowing the track enough to not punt someone off/cause an incident involving other people, I don't mind so much incidents that only involve me and I find I'm actually less likely to have an incident in a race as in practice I'm constantly trying to improve my lap time, which I ignore in the race :p

But I do practice enough so I can run quick-ish laps fairly regularly with only stupid incidents when I try to take corners far too quick...

Lime Rock Park again time doesn't really matter, but I was doing 1:06's when I first started, but I was really bad at consistency then, probably should've tested for a fair bit longer before starting to race :p

If we add each other as friends, are we more likely to race with one another?

Race Splits

When large numbers of participants have all registered to race at the same time, the field is split. In short, you don't have to do anything. Which race you'll be assigned to is automatically determined by a number of factors, including your iRating, Internet Latency, and Friends but the greatest weight is given to iRatings, so as to create close racing between similarly skilled drivers.

Aye, the solstice is really quite awkward to drive fast, just wants to understeer too much, but it's all good :p

What track are you working on?

I've decided I spend far too much time on this game, done 5 races, a time trial and a qualifying session just this evening. Did just have an awesome race though, from start to finish me and the eventual winner were less than a second apart, most of the time 0.2-0.4s apart, I was in the lead but went massively wide at the last corner early on in the race cause I was looking in my mirror rather than at the braking point :p

I'm on laguna, just managed to place third, which is great, until you look at the lap time of the first place person who was a good 4 seconds faster

heh, I got that a bit at Lime Rock Park when I first started (I was doing 1:06's they were doing 1:03/4's)

Weirdly since I've 'given up' pushing for a quicker lap time at laguna (I'd managed a 1:50.3 which I decided was good enough) i've managed to creep into the 1:50's consistantly during races and also managed to get a 1:50.1 without 'trying'

Kinda tempted to try to get into the 49's now but know that if I try i'll get slower...

The drag up the hill I'm hitting the limiter in third but seems fourth just seems to bog down.

Ive not got the sim yet as im busy with my real car, but, surely a sim of this level allows for tweaking of gear ratios?
