From the land of the rising sun....

So Rover shipped a load of old Coupes over to Japan when they couldnt shift any more in the UK, the Japs chuckled and sent the whole boat back, and now the Rover fanboys think they are super special examples? :D

They didn't even make it to Japan ;) (although what's with the old I have no idea  They were brand new Coupe's destined for the Jap market. They didn't make it across and spent a few years in storage. They weren't actually sold until 1998 but still wore the 1995 registration, all with FDH as the suffix.)

And anyone who knows anything about the Rover Coupe will know that they're not a special edition ;) They just have most of the equipment as standard.

If they never even made it to Japan then howcome the one in the OP is in Japan then?

Because even though that batch never made it to Japan, obviously there were other cars that did make it across.

There are a few genuine jap models which were re-imported into the UK and these have all of the FDH kit but with arch extensions and jap numberplate plinths.

The one in the OP doesn't seem to have the arch extensions or the rear numberplate plinth.

Thanks for that utterely irrelevent comment

I feel compelled to return the favour - even a standard Caterham 7 will embarrass a Rover Coupe Turbo.

Good, another British car.

Still, I find it funny that the only thing your BMW does better than the Rover Coupe Turbo is er... actually Im struggling to think. I was going to say motorway cruising, but the Coupe Turbo is great at that.

You DO realise you are poking a 3 headed man eating dog with a sharp stick yeh? :p

Yea me too. I'm beginning to regret buying it. I could have had everything it does and more in a Rover Coupe Turbo. It's just better at everything my 5 Series does.

Come on Frazzles, most of the people here get off on slating Rovers, let's not drop down to their level.

I love my car, it does everything I want it to do... and best of all... it's so inconspicuous.

But even I'm not going to argue that the BMW is better built and overall, a better car. It's also a lot newer than the Coupe Turbo. What a lot of people seem to forget is that the Rover Coupe is an old car and therefore will have rust and won't be as shiny or as comfy as a modern car.

However, you can't beat having a hoon against an expensive modern car and watching the other driver's face as you sail past.

The point of this thread I'm sure, wasn't to start up another 'anti-Rover' debate but a lot of people seem to have a chip on their shoulder when it comes to them.

No it isn't. I spent about 7 hours in one on the motorway and it wasn't a good experience. For motorway crusing I'd rather have the beemer, but around town I would rather have the rover.

I'll never forgot the smile I got from the guy in the S class Merc as I started creeping past him :D

Doesnt beat that one I told you about the other day when I raced that compact supercharged merc thing. He just kept looking at the speedo, the road, then me. Was quite funny :D Wish I had been in your car for more lolz and internet points :D

Had a blast with a Starlet Turbo last weekend up my private dual carriageway too. He had what I presume to be his Mrs in the car.

The tell-tale sign of black smoke coming from his exhaust kinda confirmed that his foot was flat to the floor.

Got a flash of his hazards as he turned off.

Childish but fun :D

He was probably chuckling to himself that he was sitting in a huge car with masses of luxury, air conditioned seats, double glazed windows and STILL the lightweight turbocharged Rover was only creeping past him ;)

WHOA YOU BEAT A C CLASS 180K!?

I know, mental eh?! :D

I don't know if it was a 180, do the compact ones only come in 180 form then?

Plus, considering I'm losing mass amounts of pressure as well at the minute! It gave me a buzz at least!
