Guys,

This is doing my head in. I'm starting to get back into Team Fortress 2. I've had Vista x64 for a couple of months now and getting a problem with HL2.exe not responding It can happen after 15 minutes or 3 hours into a game.

Seconds before the error I can hear the hard drive being accessed like something is loading... then..

HL2.exe not responding

...and quits back to desktop. Every other game plays perfectly. System is stable 24/7 (Prime & Orthos)

- Updated latest drivers (Sound, Graphics, MB)
- Turned off UAC
- Updated Windows

X6800XE @ 3.3Ghz
4Gb of OCZ PC1066 Ram
Geforce 8800GT @ 700/1050
Creative XFi Gamer
Seasonic 500w S12

Anyone else get this?

Edit : Same error appears once quiting the game too.

:)

I had a lot of problems with TF2 on Vista x64 too, it randomly just started to work, but I do always get a "HL2 has stopped working" Error when closing it, every time.

I get this too when exiting the game. Also when i start the game up but am active in another window then go back to TF2 it will constantly keep switching back and forth between different windows :(

stick -noborder -sw to the launch options.

It'll run windowed, but at the same resolution and without borders. Basically, it looks exactly like fullscreen, except you can alt-tab to your hearts content and back instantly :)

The crash on exit thing is due to the stats being uploaded, if you disconnect from the map your playing and go back to the menu. Leave it 15 seconds or so before exiting the game and it rarely crashes.

Can't help on the crash in game, never had that prob.

Also on x64 here and often get the crash on exit, although on this particular re-format (as of yesterday) I've yet to see it.
Instead, I had a great new bug earlier where the forward and back movement keys suddenly stopped responding whilst every other key still worked.
Pretty hard to navigate round a map using only strafe.

On close it happens on Vista32 every single time for me (and 99% of people) but on Vista64 I've yet to have any issues playing the game :)

I copied the STEAM folder form 32bit over to 64bit though.

Couldn't get into any Source engine based games to start with due to this error (system in sig running Vista Ultimate x64). In nVidia CP I changed "Multi Display/Mixed-GPU Acceleration" to Multi Display Performance mode, and it now works fine...

Dunno if that's coincidence or what!

I used to get the damn error on Vista x32 so I stuck it on the DEP list and that solved issues. However that fails to work in x64 so I guess I was 'lucky' with my whole DEP trick.
