**SPORE**

I really honestly don't understand the DRM complaining people.

It needs to connect to the internet, once, when you first install the game.

Then you will only be allowed three installs at once. Beyond that is starting to get a bit silly anyway.

And thats it. Hardly a big deal.

Totally agree, can’t believe the fuss over it to be honest.

Am I right in thinking this isn’t the first time EA have used this DRM restriction? Apart from everyone going OMG its terrible I’ve never actually seen anyone say its caused them problems.

You should try reading the thread instead of just posting it, there's a guy further up who's had a problem with this DRM lark.

Apologies, I’ve been reading the thread since it started so not sure how I missed that, but I do have a bit of a goldfish memory. Could you point me to it to save me reading the whole thread again?

You did not buy the game, you bought a license from EA to play and install it. EA can (in reason) put what it wants in the license.

I am not renting the game i am BUYING the license, doesn't matter how you spin it that license is mine and i refuse to agree to the ridiculous conditions attached to it.
As such i will use my right as a consumer not to buy it, the same way i did not buy bioshock on the PC but rather the DRM free console version

What's the fuss? the principle that something i have bought is not mine to do with as i please

Here:

What annoys me about EA and spore - they want £39.99 to pre load, even with the £5 discount for buying the creature creature, thats still £35 when you can order the retail box for £24.99.

Ive had two games recently not work without no cd cracks that had starforce stuff on them, if this is the same, i wont even be able to play it which leaves me in somewhat of a dilemma.

I really dont see why DRM is needed for this, its got online elements, you want the best out of it you are going to buy it anyway.

Ah sorry I did see that post but I didn’t realise it fully related. This isn’t starforce though is it, or is it? I don’t know the different names of copy protection methods… I was mainly curious about what happens if somebody does install it more than three times, has anybody contacted EA and been told they cant help, or is it a complete nightmare when you do? I realise its not right that you should have to contact them anyway, but I wondered if its really a bad experience.

I’m not saying that DRM doesn’t suck and I’d much rather there was another way, but it’s not enough to stop me buying a game I want, though I do understand why people want to protest against it. Although somebody mentions above that most people won’t be aware of it from reading around various forums it sounds like its really going to have some hit on sales.

None on the intermanet but it seems to be scoring quite highly in a few magazines.

I'm still on the middle of the fence on this one. I haven't played a game of this type in a long time but Spore seems really interesting.

What's the cheapest price everyone has seen this at?

Ive pre-ordered at £24.99, didnt bother to look around though.

I can't wait to get it, but I'm not purchasing games that try to limit me as a legit user.

Now, I download some games, but the big titles I really are looking forward to like Fallout 3 and Spore I did plan to buy, but I just don't want to buy into DRM enforced games, it annoys me that they have the cheek to limit me.

I mean honestly, what is the Spore DRM even going to achieve? Crackers will have a workaround for the install limit on the day of release, it's ******* retarded.

27.99 ex delivery from the rainforest. rest are all around 30 with del included, not sure about digital delivery though.

not sure it will though. if it's anything like the sims it has and will have universal appeal. i suspect that most people who are complaining about the drm are those that are gamers or know about that kind of stuff. i'd be willing to bet that if the game takes off, the majority of people buying it won't be "hardcore" gamers, it'll be the same type of people who buy the sims.

I'm slightly annoyed. I tried to order my copy from the place that is selling for £24.99 with next day delivery but as I moved home recently I had to update my credit card address details. I entered all of these in correctly numerous times but I kept getting errors saying something along the lines of 'request rejected - new address doesn't match up with the details on your card'. I contacted my bank to see what was going on and they said everything is fine their end so the website must be at fault.

I have had to order from a larger internet based website that is selling for £6 more including only first class delivery so there is no guarantee that I will get it on release day :(

EA seems to be starting to believe that its games are operating systems

Here's the source (from an older post):

I found a post on the official Mass Effect Forum that explains an alleged "fault" in the game that asks some users to go out and buy another activation code!

They claim that this was an error. Well, I have worked as a software engineer and you don't throw messages like that into a game unless you meant it. These things don't slip into the code "by accident". It looks like EA did indeed fully intend to limit this game right from the start, so that once three activations were up, you were forced to buy another copy!

I'm glad that they are changing their minds, but they need to remove activations altogether. It contravenes the right of consumers to re-sell their games according to the Copyright Act. It's high time the Supreme Court sorted out this mess and ruled on these draconian stealth tactics to fool people into thinking they own the game, when in fact they are renting it.

In case they alter the wording of this post:
