Classy cases? Thing of the past?

I've been saying the same for years. I bought my ATC-220 limited (the one with the light geen door) about 6/7 years ago. For the last few years I have been looking for somthing better, more appealing and of similar quality but I just can't find a case that even comes close.

The removable motherboard tray in the ATC series is genius, as is the mount for the power supply. I find that the case even does well with temps having 2x graphics cards and q6600 oc'd to 3ghz on a stock cooler. I have built many pc's since and am still yet to find a case to replace the ATC.

Edit : I lied my case is the 210 and is bang on the same as this one http://www.atcscases.co.uk/ATC210c_DX1/ just with a different colour door, not the 220, change in Sig coming on.

I agree totally, most of the cases i have used, seen, and had have ended up flimsy, sharp and less usefull than my CM.

My 210 has been my sole case since certainly back in 2001, maybe earlier too. I put a new system in in last month, no problems, no hassel.

As said above, this earlier generation of CM cases were slick and stylish and practical, not gawdy and tacky and weak.

I expect that as long as there are components to fit in it, it will be my main case :)

If I remember rightly, about 6 years ago CM stoped producing the high class Alloy cases because the price of Alloy rocketed, they ended up building cases like the potorian which was steel with a Alloy front plate, this was cheaper allowing them to compete in a bigger market.

I could well be wrong and have no sources to back this up.

Either way the quality of the alloy in pre 2001 Lian Li and CM cases are second to none. Most full Alliminium(sp?) cases since have been thin and insignificant in comparison :(

That could well be true. In all honesty, the weight and build quality of the old CM cases seems to me to be simply due to the fact that back then manufacturers could get away with chucking an entire industrial steel and aluminium factory into a computer case. Nowadays with high metal prices, this cannot be done economically anymore.

Likewise though, I own a Lian Li case and Mac Pro and the Mac Pro case is of astoundingly good quality. Thick aluminum, no vibrations, total silence, rigid uni-body outer structure...compared to my Lian Li V350 which has much thinner panels and far too many screws and grooves.

Still, I don't care. It's a PC case (a rather expensive one) at the end of the day and its job is to simply cool my components.

This is the best case Ive ever used. Got it from a good friend, months before they arrive on the scene. Cost me £190 and worth every penny. Build quality and finish was superb!

If I was to build a desktop again, this would be my case of choice.

Which case is this?

I've got a 201 watercooled, need to replace the stock 80mm fans with quieter ones as they are getting on a bit and make more noise than the rest of the system combined.

Also have the A70B watercooled which makes the 201 look like a midget in comparison. the A70B is HUGE in comparison.

Love to see some shots of them mate? 201 watercooling especially ;)

Ok, haven't got many of the build, I started with a single Rad then expanded it to a double swiftech.

I'll see what I can find and put some pics up, beware tho its mounted in the roof so some 201 zealots might lynch me :) But I've had it since they first came out :)

Think the problem is peoples taste! It scares me the amount of builds we do with the Thermaltake Armour...it is useless to build in and is grossly overpriced. Oh and looks rubbish. The Nissan Sunny plastic panel on top? Classy :P

;) I agree 100%. I see people with it and i really do wander why people choose it for a build. Most builds are with watercooling all over the place. What draws people to this case, i would really like to know :p
