iRacing release price details

Well I just signed up for another 3 months and bought the F Mazda and Infinion Raceway which has some great elavations. Was competative in a 10 car race at Lime Rock running 2nd for 5 laps and then ran out of talent and binned it. :D Getting better mind, great sim and really well done. I don't care so much about weather and other 'stuff' as its the model that is most important to me and these other bits will come in time. The model is the best, bar none.

I love LRP in the solstice, especially outbraking people into turn 1, great fun to be had :)

Had a good race, just 3 incidents when I binned it at the uphill bit, stupid mistake, turned in too early, clipped the kerb and failed to catch it, but set decent 1:04 times consistantly and upped my SR to 3.89, so close to the skippy now :D :p

im bloody addicted to this already..got the hang of it in only 3 days and im turning 1:04.6xx's mega fun, although annoying at times, but still this reminds of the GPL days.

Skill whats your name on iracing?
Mine Kevin Olver...(not really a racers name is it lol)

Been at this a few days now and I'm enjoying it too... been concentrating on getting my SR up (currently 3.71, so close) for the skippy which is what I'm really interested in. Still not doing too bad time wise, ran LRP for the first time today and am just getting into the 1:04's.

SKILL I'm surprise you weren't quicker in GPL considering the times your doing in this. I feel a little slow comparatively, still I guess it's going to take me awhile to get up to my old GPL level, not really even played any computer games in the last 5 years let along picked up a sim.

Little help guys, ive only done about 10laps of LRP and Leguna Seca so far, and they have more or less all been on my own, i did join a practice event with 2 or 3 other folk and was 2nd around Leguna Seca in the 1.52s, with the leader about 2seconds quicker and other 2 back above 2mins... ive read there are 2 types of rating, basically racing people and racing the clock, i want to get my solo clock racing rank up to a decent level before i go online and spoil other peoples fun, how do i do this?

Had a bit more offline fun on LRP. Can only get the Solstice down to high 1:07. Was watching some Youtube records, a couple of people doing a 1:02 seem to have a longer 3rd gear than me. Is that before an update you speak of?

I've got a long way to go before I can do consistent 1:04 - 05s. Haven't dared online yet :)

Darryn if you read the quick start guide on iRacing it will explain everything. But if you want iRatings you will need to progress from a rookie license, to do this the absolute most important thing is to improve your safety rating, this will determine how you progress in the sim.

The best way to do this is to race online (it has the heaviest weighting for SR). You don't even need a qually time, just start a race and just take it nice a slow. It doesn't matter what lap times your turning in, if you drive safe your SR will improve just as much as the race winner.

As a tip, if you hit F3 when you start a race it will so drivers in relation to you, this way you can keep track of the leaders lapping you and move over.

EDIT: oh and btw 1:52's aren't that shabby at all.

Yeah thats to do with the update.

And don't be scared of going online thats the good thing with iRacing it doesn't matter if your new and not quick yet, all you have to do is drive safely and you get rewarded.

I know I would prefer someone slow but safe as apposed to some of the fast'ish guys I see who have completely missed the point of the SR system and will smash you off the road for a couple of of race points...which are pretty meaningless at this level.

3rd gear in the Solstice is a pain. The uphill bit at LimeRock for instance, 3rd is FAR too short to be any use, yet 4th is bogged RIGHT down through the corner. Bit too short for T1 as well, but only because it makes me rev more than I'd like to in that sort of corner. And there are a few places at Laguna where it drives me batty.

52's are quite respectable at Laguna. I've only JUST snuck into the 51's, mainly because I cannot for the life of me work out a quick yet stable line through the first right hander, I either creep or spin.

Not sure I'm in any hurry to race the skippy, I'm a bit of a rolling chicane/accident at the minute......AND it pulls the arms off me, have to turn the FF WAY down.

They have an offer on at the minute to do with buying multiple bits of kit, may be a good time for me to get Sears Point etc.

Oh and they say they'll support private teams eventually. How about OCUKVMS (virtual motorsport).

Downloading GTRevo today, dunno if I'll ever get to play it with Iracing to compete with :)

You were in the LRP race I was talking about yesterday, I'm Joshua Harley, was following you when I binned it at the uphill :p

I continued plugging away at GPL and got my GPLRank negative, compared to ~60-80 I think it was when we raced in the league. Still never bothered working on consistancy though which is mainly what I'm concentrating on in this obviously. Certain tracks I find suit me more than others, for example I loved Mexico in GPL and LRP's first corner is kinda similar in that you can enter at much higher speed, if you're able to continue braking and hold the car steady-ish for the second apex, I love doing that :p

Weirdly I find myself setting PB's in races when just trying to be consistant over speed, yet still manage to put in a quick lap, for example Laguna Seca one of my last races, I actually messed it up early on so was a lap down and just going for SR points, but I was in the 49's a couple of times and then on the final lap I somehow did a 1:49.199 which i've not been able to get close to yet ¬_¬

An Ocuk private team would be good when they support it,

with Laguna Seca on that first right hander, I find the exit is the most important part, I aim to start to unwind the steering with 5.5-5.75k rpm in 3rd, up to 6k+ by the end of the rumble strip, but how I enter doesn't really matter, I generally go for a late braking/apex which works for me, does get the car sliding a bit though. I think the exit's important cause the next corner is very quick (keep thinking about trying it completely flat but too scared :p)

Sorry Bigsy, wasn't sure what you were gonna do entering the corner, looked like you were gonna go out wide so I went to go down the inside, by the time I realised I'd made the wrong decision it was too late :(

And then I was dumb enough to move into someone's way on the straight, definately a few seconds to forget :p

Taken a few days off work to have a proper bash at this... :)

Just done 50 laps of some little oval in small cute little stock car thingy in a "Time Trial" had a few incidents, but im really enjoying it.

No prob's m8, really annoyed at myself mainly, was running 3rd in a very strong field and binned it just after the hill which isn't something I normally do at all. Car was shot to pieces so I was (very slowly) limping to the start/finish line to shift-r when I saw my mirror full of white.

Dunno what happened to me in that last race, right from the start I wasn't hitting my lines right, then at T1 on the second lap I messed up my braking completely, can't remember the last time I've gone off there.

Then when I rejoined I wasn't completely all over the place but I just wasn't doing what I usually do, then that mistake, after that I just quit as I probably would've crashed again if I hadn't :p

Really annoying thing was that going into that race my SR was 3.98, so close...

Yay, finally won me first race, lead from pole to finish. Christ I'm buzzing :D

EDIT: SKILL I see you got yourself a skippy, what you making of it? Only 9 SR off one myself now!

Congrats, I do enjoy winning off pole (done it several times now), I almost miss the racing part of it but I can live with just a win I guess :p

Yep, did a solstice race as soon as I got back home from work and somehow went from 3.93 to 4.42 with 1 incident. The Skippy isn't as hard as I thought it would be really, quite a nice little car, need to work on the setup as it understeers a touch (with some semi-evil lift off oversteer) and I prefer a slightly more oversteery car, can imagine races being good (Gonna try the 9:15 one hopefully).

I'm a bit slow though, 56.3xx round jefferson, my aim is mid 55's, but at least I'm consistant, in the qualifying I did the whole session with one slow 58, one 1 minute time due to letting someone by, and the rest were 57/56's which I'm happy with, not even a moment in there :o :p

Just did the race, went badly, couldn't concentrate and just go for consistancy so span hundreds of times,

On the other hand it was good fun, mainly cause I was catching up, passing and then spinning and letting past the same group of ~5 people.

Need some more practice before another race me thinks, several hours should do it :p

ive gone from 3.86 to 3.43 in 3 races :( i just cant find my groove on LRP today, very depressing, although i finished on average 3-4 in the races lol just kept putting the car in the dirt.

Is this the right place for an outsider to ask a few questions?

I am really very interested in this. I have only recently started getting into sim racing though. I've borrowed a mates thrustmaster cheapo bit of kit and I'm learning how sim cars handle in GTR2 and rFactor, I am quite passionate about it it turns out. Does this game cater for absolute rookies looking to learn how to drive fast?

I want to get ahold of a G25 when I have a bit more cash in the bank, so I'm going to wait until then anyway, but I would still like to know if you can just dive in at this stage.

Yes, the way this game works is suited to people progressing through the various skill levels,

At the start of the game you're given a Rookie licence, which allows you to drive just one type of road car and one type of oval car, these are both fairly forgiving cars (oval especially) but also cars which will teach you to be smooth, consistant and use things like weight transfer to maximise the speed into and out of corners,

you then progress and as you progress you can race (after purchasing, that fickle thing about money again) progressively quicker cars, on the rookie licence you can race (on road circuits):
Rookie Solstice (first car, no setup options, fairly good learners car)
Advanced Solstice (same car, different front arb I believe and some setup options)
Skip Barber (single seater, setup options, not too hard to control but not easy either)

When it comes to races you are matched, in theory, with people of roughly your ability (you have a 'rating' in terms of performance, as well as safety), and the safety rating means that races are generally clean but also quite close at times.

But you, like others, might not get on with it, either for cost or just simply not liking the game, my advice would be to spend $20 (around £11) to get the one month's subscription, and give it a go :)
