The "IVE JUST WATCHED" movies thread.

Saw Full Metal Jacket last night.

Thought I'd seen it before but only remembered bits of it. Wasn't as good as I expected it to be.

It is very much a film of two halves, I rather enjoyed the first half more (the training camp) but the second half (war) is good even if it doesn't have quite the same feel to it. Some great quotes in the film too.

Cliffhanger is the most recent film I've rewatched, cheesy, stupid and John Lithgow makes for a great baddie.

Watched Fistful Of Dollars and For A Few Dollars More last night. Saw the remastered The Good, The Bad & The Ugly on Five last week (looks GREAT) and thought it was time to finally get around to watch the rest of the triolgy.

Highly recommended.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall,

Fantastic movie, funny, great acting, definitely worth a watch.

i watched this the other night too, really surprised me and as i thought it was just gonna pass the time but i thought it was excellent :D

it had this weird randomness and wtf moments from it and i thought it was hilarious.. even the way it like just cut away from scenes made me laugh!

The Mummy : Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

What a waste of time.

I love the first two films, they are cheesy but funny tongue in cheek, action packed, and well paced.

Pretty much everything this 3rd installment isn't. They have a setup for a pretty good storyline, revolving around the Terracotta Army, but it is just squandered, and pretty much ignored for the entire film. The film jumps around locations so fast you'd think they all had personal teleporters. I'm in a temple! *blink* I'm at the peak of the furthest mountain you could see in the last scene! *blink* I'm at the Great Wall!

Then to top it off Rachel Weisz wasn't in it (good call on her part), and the woman they replaced her with is terrible, she doesn't play the character anything like the first two films, she doesn't have the line delivery of Rachel Weisz or any chemestry with Brendan Fraser. It is like some stranger has just been plonked in the film and everyone pretends you should know who she is.

Then we have their son... who from the looks of it is now meant to be in his early 20's (yet Brendan Fraser hasn't aged a day since the 2nd film where his son was about 8...). Now correct me if i'm wrong, but since the 2nd film they've all been living in England, and in the 2nd film his son had a strong 'propper' English accent. Yet for reasons unknown their son is now a full on yank without the faintest twang of an English accent to be seen...

Finally we have the supporting cast. Where in the previous two films the supporting characters were introduced over time and all had intresting little quirks and backstories to make you care who they were, in the 3rd film randoms are just thrown in there without a word as to who they are or why you should give two hoots about them, and again everyone acts like you should already know them. John Hannah is also massivly underused and has very few memorable or funny lines.

Overal a complete waste of a film, that is, while watchable not a patch on the previous two films, and deffo not one to be added to my DVD collection.

I finally saw Babel at the weekend. I'm not sure what I was expecting but this wasn't it. The idea of watching the effects of one action on many different people is intriguing but it feels a bit 'disconnected', almost documentary like, which makes it hard to get involved with the characters and ultimately I didn't give a toss what happened to them. Much preferred Amores Perros.

I wasn't sure whether it should have subtitles on or not. I stuck them on in the end. Did anyone see this in the cinema? Were there subs on it?

Just back from seeing Babylon A.D.
It was a mixed bag, it had great potential but you could clearly see that the story had been butchered to get a 12 rating, it was impossible to follow and the story felt thin.
The action sequences also felt too short, but as always Vin Diesel was excellent in it.
I'd say rent this on dvd.

aw shame about the 12 rating and as i feared from your review its kinda strangled it abit but ill watch it anyway at some point when the dvd/bluray comes out,i heard rumours of it going over budget or something so they just stopped filming and threw it at the cutting room :o
Moving on i watched a film called lonely hearts last night with john travolta and james gandolfini was murder/detective story based around 2 lonely hearts serial killers in 1940`s hence the title.
Not exactly a ground breaking idea but very well made for its genre and travolta and gandolfini`s acting spot on for the story ,maybe im biased towards gandolfini becuase of the sopranos i dunno but enjoyed it thoughly worth a watch when you have seen everything else :)

Even the director bad mouthed Babylon A.D. just before it was released, he said the studio took control and cut random bits out making it almost impossible to follow.

Last film I watched. Some Japanese one called sharkskin man and peach hip girl. Was really good! Yakuza comedy type thing. Think lock stock done Japanese style.

The Happening. Worst Film Ever. Crap acting, Crap screenplay, crap story.

Street Kings. Turned it off after 30 minutes, does it get any better or is the acting cardboard all the way through?

RockNRolla - Brilliant film really enjoyed it, Their were quite a few comedy moments i found funny and the acting was brilliant! i would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoyes Gangster esque movies.

Felt a bit like a modern day Godfather, but thats me.
