Armed Forces = No Respect

its things like this that really boil my blood, its an absolute disgrace. People in the armed forces deserve nothing but respect
 
It is prejudice. end of. You can't ban a whole group of people because of the actions of a few.

If you do have some more serious issue with the Army, they are really just doing what they are told. If you don't like our foreign policy stop letting in the 50% of the people who voted Labour...
 
Its not really suprising , several clubs in our area stopped allowing service personel in.

Mainly due to them wrecking the places on several occasions.

At the end of the day any business can refuse to do business with you for
what ever reason they want.
 
The only stories I can remember reading about our army in the news usually involve drugs, rape, ill treatment of prisoners and suicide.

From the stories I have heard from friends in the services I have been totally put off them.

Yes. Well, not me, but some do. The shops on our estate have/had various warning signs limiting the number of unaccompanied teenagers because some youths got the idea to start stoning buses, milkmen, and anyone else who happened by. We've lost the evening bus service because of that as well.

Different situation this, though. If they've had a problem with squaddies then they can be dealt with like anyone else. Of course the hotel have a right to admit or deny whoever they choose, but banning everyone who enters the premises with a military ID is bang out of order. Most other policies of that sort would get them done for discrimination, and so should this.
 
Looking at it from a different angle... the hotel is very near to Aldershot and so they have probably had loads of problems with squadies in the past.

Arguably a problem with youths can be dealt with like anyone else. It's not very different. I'm unable to get myself worked up over this to be honest, they're a business, if they choose not to serve members of the forces then so be it...

Would you rather I just listened to the recruitment agency to get the truth about army life instead of friends who have served then?
 
My first thought was that the hotel probably had trouble with service personnel. Regardless, it is a matter for the owners, they can ban anybody they dislike.

Much easier to deal with the military, especially in a hotel, since you know who they are and where they are, and they're also not local (otherwise why would they be staying at a hotel).

Youths on the other hand, usually just get chased around the county. Send the Police in on mass and they scarper, head somewhere else, and cause trouble there. That's how we got them (the suspicion is that the problems weren't caused by locals). Anyway, that's a completely different thread.

The problem here is that these people sign up in the full knowledge they can be asked to put themselves in harm's way to defend the rest of us. The fact that they're all currently in Afghanistan or Iraq is irrelevant. Save a few bad apples who should be marched to the nearest detention centre, they ought to earn respect for what they do.

It's a shame for this guy in this situation, but unfortunately Squaddies have a reputation and I guess there is simply a blanket ban to stop any trouble.
