**SPORE**

Ah, well, when it comes down to it I think it's one of two things: -

1.) OcUK doesn't really like anything, definitely not if they've not paid for it.

2.) I think some of the people slating it aren't going to delete it just yet. ;)

You're probably right on both those points.

I really want to like this game but I'm finding it hard to have any interest in it. Even getting it for free wouldn't do it for me, but I'm hoping some of the more favourable reviews/comments in this thread will make me change my mind.

It just sounds to me like the game isn't really for you, and that's understandable considering it's a PEGI 12+ family game. Unfortunately some people who've "tried" it are bashing the game for this as if it's the game's fault, when EA/Maxis have never said anything but "it's a family game".

In fact, most of the complaints I've seen so far are not the game's fault but the fault of people who seemingly just downloaded it as soon as it went up without actually knowing the first thing about the game.

Even if I didn't like Spore I'd have to say that it's a very good game for the people it's aimed at and it doesn't fail to deliver on anything that's been promised for the last ~3 years, even though it does have some technical issues (I've not experienced crashing yet *fingers crossed* but I've experienced awful terrain bugs making my characters get stuck).

Seems like a fair summary, even if it just confirms my worst fears about the game ;)

Your worst fear was that it's a PEGI 12+ family game that delivers on everything promised with nothing cut out (something super rare in game launches these days)? I can understand you may have been living under a rock and not known it was a family game, but I don't see what's wrong with the rest. :p :p

I took a look around a couple of shops in Aberdeen this lunch time with a mild hope one would have it on the shelves... No luck!
Don't think I'll have time to pick it up tomorrow so it's looking like Saturday for me, curses!

Finding it hard to get started on the space stage, im just getting attacked by multiple fleets every time i start to do anything. The AI attacks wave after wave with multiple ships and i can only have one completely outclassed ship and next to no planetary defenses. I cant upgrade my ship because i have no time to generate money to do so, seems a bit unfair. Maybe im missing something?

One of the reviews mentioned this. They said AI even on easy kepts kicking their arse in the space stage, and the only way to resolve the issue was to start again. Hopefully something they'll correct in a patch.

Any ideas how to fix it from crashing on startup ? :<

Never did that for me with my downloaded version and I just tried it with my legit version. I'd check your system configuration and do the usual bits and bobs; Take any overclocks off, scandisk, defrag, memtest etc.

Not so much anything wrong about the game - more confirming that as you say "it's probably not a game for me" :)

Got the wife to install it for me so I can play it when I get in and now I find out shes there playing it!

Gonna have to get another copy I think...

Lol :)

I sometimes wish my girlfriend would play more (read: any) computer games but then I get reminded of the downsides too ;)

But that's ok though as all those people who stole it are either "testing" the game, or will go out and buy a legitimate copy immediately on release... ;)
*cough*

Well apart from me I've canceled my order, and uninstalled it.

Massive let down :(

Might buy it when the price comes down if the user content is worth the £5 or so from the bargain bin.

No way?? Didn't see you doing that tbh.

What is it that doesn't do it for you?
