Electronic Arts is giving away £20,000 of FREE petrol to customers at a London petrol station

‘Mercenaries’ from Electronic Arts are hijacking a London petrol station this morning and giving away £20,000 of FREE petrol to customers.

The entire forecourt of Last Stop Ltd near Finsbury Park, North London will be completely transformed into that of a military style bunker, with jeeps, oil barrels, sandbag walls, and fully costumed actors on hand to pump the petrol for the customers.

Residents said the promotion caused unnecessary problems

There have been angry scenes between motorists at a petrol station which is giving away £20,000 worth of fuel.

Electronic Arts has taken over the Last Stop garage in Finsbury Park, north London, to promote the game Mercenaries 2: World in Flames.

By 0730 BST, more than 150 customers had taken advantage of the offer, which allows drivers to put up to £40-worth of fuel in their tanks for nothing.

The promotion will continue until the £20,000 of fuel runs out.

Security staff are on hand to control the traffic and deal with rowdy customers.

And they were needed as tempers were starting to fray during the rush-hour.

But one local resident was less than impressed.

The woman, who did not wish to be named, said: "What an extraordinary thing to do, it's totally irresponsible. I can't believe they've been allowed to do it.

"This area is usually very quiet but look at it now, there's cars queuing everywhere. It's just creating unnecessary problems."

LOL stupid hag.

Live on BBC news now. The Police stopped it and the ppl packing their promotional stuff and leaving. Bitter lady on the telly saying her daughter was scared by traffic on way to school. Reporter asks her if she got free petrol, she said couldn't cos of the traffic.

people complain that petrol costs too much
people complain thet petrol costs nothing

well its pretty obvious that the publicity stunt has worked

any publicity is good publicity

EA's PR department are doing a fine job at the moment.

First Tiger Wood's walking on water and now this :)

Kudos to them for coming up with something original... whether or not giving people free petrol will actually make them buy the game or not is a different question.

But the advertising for the game must be worth it, all the major news websites and tv channels reporting your company's name and your next big release etc...

Dunno if it has worked tbh, I didn't hear the name of the game mentioned once twice on the BBC piece. They did say something about EA though.
