Xbox 360 defects: an inside history of Microsoft’s video game console woes

Xbox 360's owned: 4 - 1 of them being a launch console and as far as I know they all work fine still, 3 were returned and one was sold to my cousin.
Xbox 360's RROD'd: 1 - Jan 2006, one from the launch batches, got a replacement for it which still works despite my idiotic 11 year old cousin owning it. 360 in front of the radiator for the win.

PS3's owned: 3
PS3's broke: 2

My personal experience is not so bad. :p

worst part is Microsoft knew it had flawed machines at launch.

Thats it, I think people should actually read that 6 page report and see just how little they cared about the failure rate.

I remember very well in the early part of 2007 when it was largely dismissed on here that the issue was even widespread and it was the owners fault. Yet it turns out that 68% of them coming off the production line where faulty.

Its a real shame because if it had've been reliable the premiums would be so cheap now half the world would have one.

I'm sure and hope that they have learnt a valuable lesson.

Why have you had 6?

I've had one, thats been replaced 3 times because it broke.

You have bought 6 separate 360's? why would you do this?

Well i ordered 2 on lauch, sold 1 shortly after, bought one for MRS then after a few month she didn't want it. Bought myself a halo 3 console but fancied a NTSC 360 so sold that a bought one from states. Also bought one to do some 'testing' with.....

So you have not really owned any of them for a significant amount of time to pass comment on their reliability.

think a lot brought new ones to replace refurbs that they was going to get back, even refurbs have had their issue's and people didn't want refurbs "who can blame them". Theses refurbs then go fleabay and part funds their new 360

Yes i have, i have owned like 2 at a time and had regular use for i'd say an average 4-8 months on each console, plus they wasn't all new and had never had RROD before.

Also having them for 2 years doesn't make a difference, people have had 3RROD out of the box.

Hmmm.

Condition of the thread - everyone must read the 6 page article and not just post the usual "sample of 1 person" statistics and supposed facts. That's been done to death.

I bought one in december 2006 and I got the RLOD in may 2007 IIRC, got a full refund from where I bought it from though!

I bought the elite end of july 2008 and have been playing it hard since so will see how long this one lasts lol :)

It is quite scary that Microsoft thought they could get away with the RROD, I've lost a lot of faith in my falcon 360 and may have to get a jasper now.

RROD isn't the only fault with these consoles it's one of many, it's just the only one covered by the extended warranty.

They should've all been pulled from the shelves until Microsoft had redesigned them with proper testing.
