Free disk cloning software

I need to clone my ntfs formatted disk from a samsung 500GB drive to another identical drive. I know I can do this with norton ghost or acronis true image but I don't really want to fork out the cash for something that I would only use once and was wondering if there any good freeware alternatives?

My requirements are that it is relatively simple to use and that it doesn't need to use floppy disks as I don't have an fdd.

I've done a bit of googling but haven't come up with anything suitable.

Can anyone suggest some suitable software that will do what I want?

I did find samsung disk manager but it seems that this needs a floppy disk to boot from which rules it out.

Thanks, I've always had problems when migrating between drives, I've always tried and failed moving whole partitions from 1 drive to another - and had tpo resorted to doing a fresh install and copy pasting user files in the end,

I'll give DriveImageXML a go.

I did a dry run of this, My external USB sata drive is recognised by on of the drivecopy software on ultimatebootcd

So when I get my laptop, I format the drive and copy my desktop partition onto my USB sata drive, and then copy that onto my laptop's hard drive.
