Catalyst 8.9 BETA (8.53) Vista 32/64, XP soon

Trying these again, I have had the GPU has recovered rubbish now a few times in desktop with dual screens. This is frustrating as my GTS512 powered the two screens flawlessly.

What's going on with the ATi drivers these days? :(

So you have dual boot? I don't have that luxury :(

Can't you just press F8, after BIOS just as the windows boot loader kicks in? Should be on the menu that comes up with safe boot etc?

as an aside I've not had any issue with my 4870 X2, under XP x64 or Vista x64. No dual screens as such but do have my HDTV hooked up as a second screen over HDMI.

Yeah I have tried booting in safe mode about 10 times or more but it just hangs and never actually boots up, it never even gets off that screen!
I am new to vista but first time I gave it a good 15 minutes I would have thought that was ample as XP only used to take seconds:confused:

Hmmm, ATi don't seem to be having much luck with these new drivers. Thank god for only having a single card. One 4850 on 8.7 and not had a single problem from day one.

Did it get to the advanced vista boot options? ( they state safe mode, etc)

I had no joy with them. I have found out that as soon as I remove the Ati display driver is when I have the issue and I start having serious problems. I borrowed a m8's 1900xt after lots of boots it finally got into desktop with it and I installled 8.9 beta display driver then swapped cards over and nothing again, changed to pci/peg in the bios on motherboard and it booted up on my x2 but on games like DMC benchmark the scores were less than half what they should be, so I decided to remove display drivers and am in the same boat as I started can't get the 1900xt or the x2 to even get in desktop even tho I can hear my pc is booting up fine, the plug and play drivers don't seem to kick in. plug the good old 8800gts in and every time it boots up just fine, seriously thinking of installing nvidia drivers and keeping my 8800gts and sticking this x2 up for sale as no gfx card ever has caused me this many problems.

XP now added. :)

You're a gent ;). Thank you.

i have Assassins Creed but i didn't know it was a dx10.1 game. is there away of of knowing it's running in dx10.1?

these 8.9 beta drivers are great. they made my screen clearer at 1920x1080..

Vista, SP1 and Assassins Creed with no patches for to see DX10.1. If you update you will be involved in the controversial removal of the DX10.1 code by Ubisoft. If you've already patched Assassins Creed then save your saved game profile and reinstall with no patches and you should be fine :).
