First PES 2009 Review... 97%

I saw Level magazine; which is a reliable mag (personally); they have huge review of the game, 8-9 pages. They elaborated game modes, played lots of matches and wrote a review (not a preview) of press copy. They were extremely pleased about the game. The review score is %97; they do not think that they will change their mind on score, when they get the final release. Editor of mag is the reliable guy; who has been my main source since PES 2. He told me that he has been totally satisfied about gameplay, graphics, animations etc. His motto in his email to me was (something like) Return of the King. In a while; mag had reviewed PES 2008 with a score 6.7 or 7.0 out of 10. As they expressed all the cons of PES 2008 have been trimmed out; and finally we got the beauty of PES. They mentioned about improved ball physics, AI, slowed down game speed, flexible animations. They called PES 2008 as a pinball soccer and 2009 as a real one.

Sounds like a return to form for PES. That magazine must have been one of the few who gave PES2008 a rubbish score, which is a good sign. However I'm not sure if they're that reliable.

I'll be buying FIFA 09 first, Konami said the demo should be out three weeks before release.

Already posted in the video thread.

I can see signs that they've tried to get closer to previous games in the series, but to me 97% says it belongs with the very best versions and I just don't believe that will be the case.

Looks like FIFA will get my vote for the 2nd year running.

PES needs a new engine, simple. But tbh I don't think it will ever reach the standard of FIFA for a good few years.

i dont know how anyone can be so sure of anything until they play both demos tmrw?

maybe the new pes will be good, maybe it wont, wait and see

I still preferred the gameplay in pes08 to fifa08, just most of the other stuff was a letdown + some things in the gameplay immensly frustrating.

IMO they just needed to sort out the online, those annoying niggles (like malcoordinated keepers + ridiculous refs) and add a couple of features and I'd be happy.

I don't look for shinyness / polished graphics in a football game, it's all about realism and playability for me so I don't really care about the engine.

To get 97% PES2009 would have to have stunning graphics (almost life-like), amazing gameplay which is as close to real football as you can get, an incredible sountrack, brilliant commentary, be loaded with great features, and have the very best presentation (menus etc). From every preview I have read and the gameplay videos I have seen, unless they have totally redone the game in a week there is no way it is getting 97%. At most I think it will get 90%, and even that would be impressive considering what I have seen so far.

Sorry PES fans but I think it is Fifa to win this year..... lets just wait and see what the demos are like.

Geez listen to the born again Fifa fanboys. Your worse than ex smokers. Yes we know you now love fifa and nothing compares despite venting your EA hatered about every other title, despite before the game was released last year telling anyone who would listen how crap fifa was compared to Evo.

How about waiting for the demo's instead of having to do another embarrassing flip flop.

Well from the latest videos we can see it looks pants. Surely the vids and a demo won't be too different? Also you can't really blame people for saying bad things about pro evo following the nose take it has taken over the past few years.

I want something with the awesomeness of Pro Evo 5 but it looks like we might have to wait till next year.

Where does fan boys come into it

I can think of less than 5 games worth 97% or higher, and only one of them Im totally sure about (Deus Ex) It would make it better than Pro Evo and Fifa from the last couple of years combined, which considering what we've seen of the game is highly unlikely.

Not really, for something thats 97% it has to stand up to repeated playings, i think even on pes06, i played for about 200 days constantly, which gives far far more value than most games.

A good football fan reviewing a good football game would be right to give it a high score.

PES08, i probably played on about 10 different days, and Fifa, about 100.
