Attention budget buyers HD 4670

Doesn't seem all that impressive. Yeah sure, it's cheap and it does the job but not many people have a HTPC doubling as a gaming rig.

And whilst there are still quite a few people with smaller resolutions, as soon as they want to change they'll also have to change the graphics card as the 4670 doesn't really provide great performance above 1280*1024.

I'd have thought they would have used an uber cut down 4870 for it not a 3870, a 3870 is abit crappy for that card, bit odd as you get he 4850 and 4870, doing awesome at AA, then if this thing is indeed a cut down 3870 then AA just totally goes down the drain, at least with the 3870 series and the AA was most or less the same with all cards, rubbish on one rubbish on the other, but then again was there a 3670?

well it certainly is a cheap way at getting multi-channel LPCM 7.1 audio by adding it to a older HTPC set-up

Don't forget the AA 'issue' has been pretty much sorted for quite a while now. I've said a few times before, but it swayed the other way with the G92 based cards suffering a larger hit with AA applied than RV670 cards and G92s weren't particularly bad with AA either.

Hi there

Yes OcUK will be stocking these but its a soft launch for ATI, no stock avaible for approx 1-2 weeks.

OcUK has orders on and will be one of the first to get stock in. :)

G92 cards had a large hit with AA? Did not seem that way with my 8800GT, the 2900XT on the other hand was awful and thats just as fast if not faster than a 3870, I don't believe since I sold it drivers improved that much as well, no way in hell did they, unless drivers don't improve until I get rid of the card, so if I sell my 4870 now I guess in a week or so another couple of sets of drivers will be out and the card will be miles better.

Shame about being 128bit but ati don't really want to destroy nvidia do they now...competition is always good :p

It's still the most powerful card on a 128-bit interface out, and by a wide margin.

I was pretty surprised when I looked at the benchmarks on AAT and saw it often besting the 3850. It's a really, really impressive card considering the technical constraints ATi worked with to produce it. No doubt we'll be seeing them for £40-ish in a couple of months, too. All ATi need to do now is release the 4750 (RV770LE), 4650 (RV730 Pro), and 4550 (RV710) and they'll pretty much be dominating the entire market. Edit: Oh, and the 4850X2.

$79 ? should be like like 45 pounds then? sounds real nice for my Media Center/ Server rig

Unfortunately the only place that has them so far is selling them at £58. You can get a 3850 for that price. I was looking at getting one of these for my second pc but they need to be cheaper than that.
