WTF?

To make bank transfer online I now have to use this crappy little thing and put it code and what not, which means i either have to get 2 of these things (Home & Work) or carry it with me to work. I understand its another step to prevent card fraud but can they not think of a better way than this medieval crap ? It looks like a 99p calculator.

I think it's a brilliant idea, think of how much of a pain it would be for someone to have their bank details and online pin stolen, the thief could do anything they wanted with it.

Ask them for another card-reader though, I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem with sending another one out.

You'd be the first to complain if you were a victim of fraud on Internet Banking. I didn't like the idea either when I first got mine, but I got a second and then have one at home and work and don't find any problems.

I thought you could have the option to just use the old-fashioned pin entry anyway?

I'm sure they offered me that or the card reader when I was there.

Got one from Nationwide, that + the 3/4 passwords/codes/memorable crap you have to put in everytime made me give up.

Moved everything to my FD account, couldn't be happier, best regular saver ISA as well.

I can see why it's done, but it's very archaic.

ohh i misread what it was. HSBC use a little device that gives you a different number each time that you enter online, not a card reader :p

I think they are a brilliant idea. They should be rolled out by all banks as it would pretty much put an end to bank phishing and the millions of pounds that are stolen from people by it every year.

Sure, its slightly less convenient, but its well worth it. The only improvement I would like to see is if they could issue a specific card for it instead of your debit card as I am always leaving my debit card in it when I go out.

that + the 3/4 passwords/codes/memorable crap you have to put in everytime made me give up.
That does seem a bit over the top. When Barclays brought in the Pin Sentry, they dropped most of the passwords you have to enter. Now its just membership number, last 4 digits of card and the code from the Pin Sentry.

Waiting for the same thing to arrive from natwest, want to setup a transfer between my current and savings account :/

Its a fantastic Idea and adds only seconds to any online transactions I make. Rather that than have to chase up lost money through fraud.

I like it.

You can use any ones you know, every one is Identical.

What I don't like is it can be used to verify your PIN, say, if someone is holding a knife to your throat and demanding your PIN.

Been using mine for about 5months and not really had any problems I am on my second one though first one just stopped working. I thought using it when sending money but you don't have to use it every time you do a bank transfer
