Steam. Hating over?

I've never had any problems with it. BUT all i want to do is play HL2 Ep2. I have to install it first, so i dig the orange box out, insert cd only to find out it's going to download the whole bleedin game instead. Why can't it just install EP2 like a regular game, then update? It's Been doing it now for 2 hours.

No they were right because it was buggy and bad at the time.
That's like saying you hated a game which was unplayable on release, but is now fixed with patches and is great, but you were wrong to hate it.

Loved steam since day one. Never had a single problem with it either. I still love games in their cases though. So only tend to buy from steam when something I really want is on offer and very cheap.

I never hated Steam.

It was broken, But I didnt hate it for it, I just avoided it.

Now I love it. The only issue is the pricing. As soon as Steam pricing falls inline with other online stores and real life shops, then it will be perfect.

Hated it when it came out, buggy and annoying.

But over the years steam has grown on me, just so long as valve stay cool and don't turn steam into one big bloatware program somewhere down the line I'm happy having it on my pc.

Never hated it since I got to use it a year or so after release. I did have to drag my PC to friend's house to get HL2 activated.

Have loved STEAM since day one really. Yep, it had its quirks but it was obvious to me what the potential could be.

It does at the moment seem to be fulfilling its potential and I don't see ANYONE else coming anywhere close to what VALVE have produced within a reasonable amount of time.

Other publishers (ARE YOU LISTENING EA) should give up and sign up with Valve, we all know they are too stubborn to concede defeat.... sorry, my appologies, I had forgotten how great the EA Download service is ;)

How would other publishers relationship work with Valve since they would be publishing the game on steam?

Have always liked it, although not sure how they justify some of the prices they charge given you could often get a hard copy for the same.

Have always thought it would be a very good service - and I don't think it's ever let me down - not lost a game or had to get in touch with Valve even once.

Am glad to see Crysis: Warhead available on Steam now - must mean EA are able to see (finally!) that it's a massive market they can get a finger into.

When steam first came out, i hated it due to the problems it had. Now on the other hand i quite like it.

The only problem i currently have with it is that sometimes when i run steam and the main page loads (the one that shows new games for sale and such) i get a popup asking me if i want to allow ActiveX or not (due to IE settings i have it set to prompt me on ActiveX use). Bit of an annoying popup, but i dont seem to have had it pop up much recent which is good.

It's too expensive for new games and it is annoying having to open it to play single player games. For those reasons I never buy anything but games not available anywhere else on there and never will. It's also still got a few annoying bugs. Generally it's a good piece of software though and probably the best of its kind.

Those who are saying that other companies haven't done another system like this well (EADM isn't done well), I've never had any problems with Stardock's Impulse. And it 1-ups steam since you don't actually need to run the games through Impulse, you just use it to download the patches. Though you can use it as an explorer and run the games from it anyway.
Solves the problem of the dubious 'offline play' in steam, while also letting you play with older versions of the game if you prefer.

After early doubts (eg what if the service goes down, etc) I find it a very convenient way to own games in a broadband age. However I do routinely get pee'd off waiting for the Steam app to load & log-in.

This is reminding me that I must fire up the games box and see if you can force it to start up in offline mode automatically. That ought to cut down the delays.

Only gripe I have with steam is that despite a separate store from US everything is still priced in dollars. Would be nice if they just did it in Pounds or Euros.

Absolutely love Steam. Having to use CD's and worry about DRM has really ******* me off for the past few years to the extent that I generally play CS:S most of the time for the past 3 years. I actually really liked BF2 when it came out but having to use the CD with my laptop really ****** me off.

I see that Crysis has been announced for Steam. Hopefully this is EA testing the service out and will launch more titles on it.

Hopefully, all 15 users from their own service will move over :P
