Not so much the gameplay but i've gotten so used to the strategic zoom that when i came back to DoW / C&C i just could not get 'into it'.

It felt very cramped and like i was missing an arm or something.

Anyone else feel the same?

Nope, still enjoy others, bit bored with SC myself because of lack of mates to play with/against :(.

RA2 is still awesome to play in the meantime, as is age of empires 2 still :p.

No because sup comm is a steaming pile of boredom especially online it's just a mass unit spam no strategy no tactics required.
I grew bored of sup comm after the nuke thing wore off.
And went back to company of heroes.

Strategic zoom does spoil certain other games but only if you are just coming from a bout of Sup Com as it's in your mind then - wishing you could zoom out to see what as going on across the whole map - or even having a map on a 2nd screen in CoH - that would be useful!

Unlike most other RTS games, like the whole C&C series for instance :P

And while it hasn't ruined, I often go into games and expect the strategic zoom. Sins of a Solar Empire has it too, which makes it harder to go back to games not using it.

No, but it has made me appreciate the features that are present within it.
Also the strategic zoom is only one feature that supcom brought to RTS what SupCom brings is MASSIVE battles and PHYSICS. Non of that scripted nonsense, it is possible to have nukes hit planes etc.

The game brought a whole new level of realism to the RTS.

One thing I really hate is the overuse of the word tactics by people playing RTS games, like some people think they are freakin Sun Tzu or something.

Strategy
Win by attrition of your opponents income
Tactic
Send ACU in first to depleat enemy forces then follow with larger undepleated own force

Strategy
Rush air transports and use light units to 'ghetto' out the side to hit the ACU unguared
Tactic
Put few units up front as diversion then rush build air factory (using reclaim instead of spending early income on mass extractors

Please do not talk of SupCom as not having strategy or tactics because it is filled with them.

What both SupCom and CoH have brought to the RTS is non scripted events.
Meaning that if I fire a higher tiers weapon at a lower tiered unit, it does not always die. This very fact is the factor that should change RTS games.
It stops the awful mammoth tank spam style of play that has been so prevelant in RTS for so long.

Sure Starcraft had something similar, but that was more of a scissors, rock, paper than a sticky bomb on the side of the tank or a fast moving unit running circles around the heavy.

Now if they would only freakin patch supcom I could sleep at night happy!

Absolutely...

I couldn't play C+C3 afterwards because I felt like I was stuck with my nose an inch away from the ground.

i love supreme commender especially the size of some of the wars further into the game, but at the same time i still enjoy playing Dawn of war. so no, it hasn't ruined others for me, although it is far better the others are still fun to play.

I haven't played SupCom enough to be able to say for sure you're wrong about the tactics involved, but I can say for sure that you've definitely not played StarCraft enough - the things you're describing as not in there are one of the core gameplay elements of the higher skilled players.

I also don't like SupCom as it certainly didn't feel as tactical as StarCraft to me or enough of a 'fun' RTS (e.g. Command and Conquer/etc) to be bothered with. I'm sure once youre more familiar with it the tactics shine through though. A bit.

Supcom has "opened my eyes" to what rts games can be. It may not be the most visually impressive game, but what other rts game allows you to play on such scale, not to mention develop tactics that you can set according to time it takes your units to travel to its destination? Things like that makes me wish that other game manufacturers would listen and learn from Gaspowered.

I know I should have liked SupCom because of what it was trying to do with the genre, but I just found the whole thing a souless empty experience. For me the game really lacks character and I have no feeling or bias to any one of the factions, it just seems more a proof of concept than a 'complete' game :(
