DC5 replacement

Not my style mate. Great car, but I just don't like them.

Am really thinking of either a S2000 or E46 M3 now. Will have to drive the M3 but how likely will my local dealership be to let me out in one?

I don't think you could go wrong with an S2K really. You'd get more toys with an E46 but I doubt the driving experience will compare with the rawer DC5 you're used to where the S2k will. Then again, if you want a vast change the M3 will probably be the ideal option for the money and is certainly quicker in a straight line.

I suppose it's a case of getting some time in either cars.

Also, did you sell your boot build?

Given you have owned the pinnacle of FWD coupes I would suggest something RWD as any other FWD car will likely leave you cold after the Teg.

Can I suggest:-

http://pistonheads.com/sales/671369.htm

Way under budget leaving you some pennies to fettle it ;)

poverty spec - no leather (or gear knob even!) and fugly wheels.

problem with S15 is that mechanically is very similar to the S14/S14a but quite a bit more expensive, it looks loads better imo and more up to date. but then you are starting to talk money thats not far off E46 M3's for that money.

I know mate hence me wanting to drive one first. Only thing about the S2K that puts me off is the ferocious reputation it has. My Teg is very good in the wet and I'm sure to do something stupid in the S2K. Plus the whole practicality thing, the DC5's boot is huge and has served me well.

Boot build is still in the car mate.

Hi there

S2000 is not bad at all. Its like anything if your going to press on in the wet then be ready to catch her as they will let go if your too heavy on the throttle. Drive it smoothly in the wet and drive at a speed safe for the condition then its not gonna bite you.

I had a 99 spec S2000, which are regarded as the worse as they are very snappy due to the GEO setup etc.

I believe 2000 onwards cars were a little tamer, 2002 models got a bit tamer again and in 2004 onwards they were made a lot more friendly.

Seriously a blue or black S2000 2004 onwards look awsome. Superb handling, quite raw but could be made even rawer and power upgrades come in the form of superchargers which is something you could save up for or just buy a 2002 car cheap as a project. :)

S2000 hands down for hot sunny days.
M3 E46 for all other days.

It will be a hard choice. :p

Cheers mate. I know what you mean about the "taking it easy" part but I fear I'll lapse one day and get my Teg head on. Even in the dry when driving my mates S2K it took me a while to get the most out of it as I was driving it like my Teg. Once I got that solved it was tail out fun and such a lovely drive. I found myself driving it a lot slower then my Teg though, but that's purely as his is standard and wouldn't stand a chance of keeping up with mine on a track. By no means a bad thing either with 8 points on my license!

My good mate Chris Franklin will be sorting the Geo out on whatever car I get anyway so not bothered what it's like out of the factory.

I wouldn't mind an older one that was registered as PLG for tax purposes and use the change and throw a load of money at it.

Colour will be black; yes it's a bugger to keep clean but nothing beats a freshly waxed black car. :D

What's this mean?

Cars without CO2 Emissions data, so thats everything registered February 2001 and earlier, and some small volume cars since (Alpinas etc) are registered as PLG - Private Light Goods. This attracts a fixed price duty depending on whether its above or below 1549cc.

In other words, it isnt affected by Mr Darlings war on CO2.

It means I won't be paying £400 or whatever it is for the newer S2000's. S2000 kicks out 237 (or close to that) g/km which puts it in the top category. Some early S2000's were registered as PLG which at the moment is only £185.

It really doesnt make any difference tho, with a £15k budget why do you give a stuff whether its 200 quid or 400 quid? It doesn't matter. You'd be mad to turn down say an 04 plate because of this one thing.

237 isn't top category either, its band L.

It's not the money, it's the whole point! :D

Was thinking of a pre 2001 TVR to rub it in. I'm cynical like that. But I would kill myself in one of those.

Oh cheers, I thought it was something more technical than that!

Pre Feb '01..Is that all X reg and some Y regs?

Which isn't always a good thing, Alpina D3's cost over £60 more than a 320d to tax because they're not taxed on CO2, sadly. Can't have it both ways though, a B5S is taxed at about half what an M5 costs I believe.
