E46 pre vs post facelift

If you just want to run a 328 as it is then go ahead, you can get a cheap car. But what i'm trying to get across is that if you want a 330 sport but in a cheaper way, buying a 328 and making it into a 330 is going to cost you MORE

If you want a sport looking version but a 328 body then it wont really cost that much more unless you buy brand new parts and are young in a crap post code and bad history with your insurance / license.

Exactly. Not even with the increased insurance costs over a period of time as the saving in tax will negate most of it!

Its a good option imo.

Whats that website for BMW spares, where loads of crashed / written off ones get stripped or sold on to be stripped?

You're not going to be able to retrofit everything. Even if you do, your resale value will be twisted and you're going to have to declare modifications on insurance.

Fox is correct in that I don't have the budget for a good 330ci, also I currently insure a modded turbo japanese car so I'm sure I'll manage with a 328ci + bodykit ;)

I don't want to bring the spec up to facelift, tbh all i'll prob do is fit the LED rear lights + sport bodykit. I just wanted to know if there was a killer blow that would make me want the facelift more (thus justifying the extra few grand)

As I keep saying a facelift model is more than an extra few grand. Are you confusing the introduction of the 330 with a facelift? It didn't happen with a facelift - there was one proper facelift, in 2003, a good 3 years after the 330i appeared.

Sorry for bringing this up again, i don't know about the OP'er but from what i imagine is that he was comparing the 328i to a sport (330). the 328i compared to a regular 330 but in facelift version would be ridiculous to compare.

Fair enough if all you're going to do is fit the kit to the 328 (even then the kit must cost pennies if you reckon 1k including the kit, fitted and sprayed), all i meant is that if you wanted all the rest of the stuff (sport steering wheel, xenons, suspension an brakes? etc) then it would have been un-economical especially as when it comes to re-sale (if you even consider that) it will be harder to shift and worth less than a genuine 330 sport which shouldn't cost you *that* much more if you're considering an earlier (2001) model, compared to a 99 or 00 328.

depends what you want out of your car i guess

I'm being inspecific with regard to the price. I know the 330 and facelift don't share release times.

No. Removing the M52's very restrictive intake manifold usually releases around 15-20bhp. This puts the 328i at 210bhp.

Can't be done, as I own a 328i. Thought about changing the intake manifold to release some extra horse but it can't done = (
