S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky - Gone Gold

I put it on the Enhanced Full Dynamic Lighting (highest it can go in XP), every slider to the right, those 3 lighting settings on maxi and it was crawling, turned sun shadows off it flew. :p

Just got this today, my 8600GT is crying in pain.

Going to order a new card tommorow, anyone know if a 4850 will be able to give a decent framerate at full details - 1280x720?

Sun Shadows off yes, ive got a 4850, and can't have the sun shadows on at any resolution, i even tried 800x600, every slider to the left and it still crawled.

Not sure about absolute max, I run it at 1900x1200 on Medium-high (in DX10) on an 8800GT, and it stutters but is perfectly playable.

You may have to knock down some of the killers such as soft particles, AA a bit and sun shadows, but you will get pretty graphics with that card I reckon :)

Got it yesterday and I'm loving ot so far, just got to Cordon.

Performance wise i've found a sweet spot. I have it 1680 x 1050 DX10 and just set the basic slider to high, you can't tell the differnce between this and very high. This gives me between 25 - 50 fps which is fine for me, remember not to judge the fps in the first clear sky base, my fps doubled (almost) after I left it and started to explore the swamps.

Some mini mods in the GSC forum and on stalkerfiles worth looking for are -

'Iron sights for pistols' - god knows why they took this out

'No loading disk' - get rid of the little disk on the corner

'no headbob' - made me feel queezy!

'no crosshair' - replaces it with a single pixel dot.

:)

Cheers, well i guess a 4850 will be ok for me then, shame about the sun shadows though.

At the moment i can actually run the game pretty well (~30fps in the swamp) with textures/object detail all the way up, grass/view distance etc.. about half way and the lighting detail on 'Dynamic Objects' (i think). With those settings it already looks quite a bit nicer than SoC, but i tried it with everything set to max just for a laugh and it looks so much better - albeit at about 2fps.

My 8600GT started artifacting on full settings though which is never a good sign lol.
