Hey guys a question on the hdmi compatibilty

do i get all resolutions when plugging into hdmi socket as right now i have 8800gts which i have plugged through DVI to RGB on my hdtv but i can only choose a certain amount of resolutions,

resolutions i cant have: 1280x1024
1440x900
1600x900
1680x1050
1920x1080
1152x864
1280x768
1280x800
1280x960

resolutions i can have: 1024x768
800x600
960x600
1280x720
1360x768

would really like to use 1600x900 or higher but cant, and most of my games dont run any higer than 1024x768 :(

i think it depends on the res of your tv tbh

i have tried my pc on my hdtv which is 1080i
that runs at a max of 1366x768

so i would sooner run it on my pc monitor at 1680*1050

a very popular panel size used in mid-range HDTVs is 1366 x 768 and are often advertised as 1080i "compatible" or "HD ready" - however these TVs, while accepting a 1080i signal will scale it down to the panel size of 1366x768 as they are physically incapable of displaying 1920x1080 resolutions.

right now i have dvi-vga then vga cable to vga port on tv
my max res is 1366x768 but only some of my games can take this resolution

and if i get a dvi-hdmi adapter then a hdmi cable from adapter to tv i would get higher res than 1366x768

no you wont be able to on a hdtv as the max res is only 1366x768 so u cant go any higher than that, if you want higher then u must get a monitor which are much better for pcs and will go a lot higher than any hdtv.

Or use a 1080p HDTV which is 1920x1080....

well right now i have 1080i hdtv so max is 1366x768 so what use is the hdmi adapter for the bfg 260gtx does it make the picture more clearer and are games that are coming out going to be using 1366x768 resolutions as i have only got a few games that run at 1366x768 resolution

edited- my full screen size can go up to 1920x1080 i can use that resolution on desktop but my games cant, so when i play games the screens are smaller

if i use the hdmi will i get any of the resoultions that i cant use to work

I'm curious to know whether or not the 2xx series produces that annoying squeal under load that plagued the 8800's so badly. I had to send a BFG 8800 GTX back because of it - anyone?
