395 people per square km across the whole country - including rural areas. Was previously The Netherlands. Only Malta has a higher population density but their total population is that of a single big-ish British city (400k). For those wondering why you should care:

James Clappison said:
"Population density has direct implications for quality of life - it adds pressure on public services, it adds pressure on infrastructure and it adds pressure on the environment."

I also suggest that it has an impact on the crime rate.

Singapore copes fine with 16x our population density.

Macau is only so populated because it's essentially a load of hotels that are filled with chinese gamblers!

Here's a list of countries sorted by population density. It's quite a meaningless figure on its own. :)

Must be old if UK is now above all other european countires.

We need stricter immigration laws. Australia have the right idea.

You still dont realise...we need them and have done since the second world war. They are keeping this country going. We get so many parp people because a lot never had a chance to go through education and generally learning the way of our country )and thats usually the illegal ones) so they came to ours and did what they like. Many actually contribute though. So in order for us to get enough to work and keep this country going and stop it from being a greying population we need to ccept some naff ones will slip through the net. They are generally the only people having over 2 kids per couple as well anyway who will soon pay your pension.

Just beacause the media only talks about the bad guys doesnt mean theres more. Everyone should know that. For instance.

In the US gun crime went down 20% and in the same time the media talked about gun murders 600% more...

True, but then the Aussie government isn't being dictated to by the European Parliament, and even if they were I doubt they'd bend over and take it like our pathetic dictatorship seems to do.

What we should do, is get the planes and ships ready and kick anyone out who can't speak the language! You want to live here, then have the decency to learn the bloody language .

The important bit from that link: "Note that figures are simply estimates of population divided by total surface area and should not be considered either as reflecting density in the urban sense or as indicative of the ability of a territory’s land to support human habitation."

In other words, don't go comparing us and The Netherlands with small city states like Macao, Monaco or Singapore.

Surely there should be some sort of cap on the population, i think 60 million is plenty enough, or we should start expanding the country into the sea, that would be kind of cool.

yea send them back, and then we'll have a massive food shortage and wont have anyone to do the crap jobs.. good idea, guarantee us recession, its about time we had one..

Or how about not.
